Looks great mate. Almost identical to mine, apart from the bench seat, and my original paint was shagged. What are the plans for it?

That is one beautiful car. Enjoy it and leave it as is. He would have been sadden by the sale i'd say, so you owe it to him to look after it just as he's done from new.

What a pearler! That's a rare find. Well done for persisting and well done to the old guy for giving it a good home.
There's a 253 Premier in the same condition in my suburb. I see it every week and my mate's workshop services it. 90,000km on it. Trouble is, the bloke won't sell, and people have been trying for years.
Still, stories like this give me hope.

Similar thing in ballarat. theres a bloke in Bunninyong with an immaculate green HQ GTS coupe with a vinyl roof. Hes owned it since new. Everyones put a note on it at one stage or another but he wont sell...

Thanks guys. Plans are to leave her as is, all original. She will be looked after that's for sure, only for cruising on nice days. Its definitely aquamarine, paint code 567-15821, trim 1879-39R. It has been resprayed quite a while back, but the paint is in great nick because he's hardly driven it. He told me it was originally all one colour and he had the roof done in white when he had it resprayed. I think I prefer the look of the white roof myself. Is there a way to tell on the plates if it had a white roof from factory? Its a great story with this car....I was at the shops almost 4 years ago when I spotted it. I drove home quickly to get a pen and paper to leave my number on it. Just after I left the shops I did a u-turn to follow a mint looking VC SLE and as I drove past the shops I see the old man at the car so I quickly pulled in to ask if he wanted to sell it. He was sort of thinking about selling it so he gave me his address and I went past that day and gave him my number but he decided not to sell it as then he would have no car and didn't want to buy another one (fair enough too!) Anyway...after 4 years and many visits and chats he calls me out of the blue. Apparently another guy had followed him home from the shops and was sniffing around. After another couple of chats and some negotiating he rings me and accepts my offer of $6500. He wanted $7000 and I offered $6000 so I suggested we meet halfway. The way he's looked after it, I think he deserved to get good money for it. I felt bad buying it off him, the poor old guy had tears in his eyes as we were doing the deal. Its not just about his pride and joy he's had from new leaving him, it's his independence as well not having a car anymore. I should go past and visit him in it every now and then. Ive been looking for a nice original Holden for a while now and I couldn't be happier. It just goes to show....they are still out there, its just a matter of finding them.

Mate another thing to tell you. Mine is very similar and in similar condition. I have used it as a wedding car quite a few times. Aquamarine is a great colour for weddings cause it hasn't dated as much as some of the other colours from back then and looks good in photos. Whenever the family of the bride to be views the car before the day they always say 'Oh what a pretty colour! Iv'e as good as got the job right there and then!

It is a nice car, that HQ colour has always been a favourite of mine. Those of us with original unrestored Premiers should get together and form an association of some sorts, try to get them all together at some stage!
If that HQ Prem was mine though I'd pull the running gear out and store it complete, and put a period correct 308, column shift V8 trimatic and salisbury plus decent exhaust in it, but leave it stock otherwise.
