OK it has come time to send off the red for its rebuild, and I THINK I have worked out what I am gonna do to it, but would like comments or suggestions.
Keep in mind this is not a high performance motor rebuild, I need a car that will be a daily driver and reliable, easy to maintain and cope in a range of city driving, also must be able to tow old Caravan around the country at any opportunity! hehe
Oh yeah and it will be put into an EK wagon, running a Trimatic (rebuilt) and 3:36 rear end (may swap to 3:08??)

So....
being a virgin block it will be taken out to regular re-con specs, new pistons etc, red head with unleaded conversion and standard top end, twin stromberg carbys, pacemaker triple Y headers, Blue crank and starfire rods, Alloy timing gear and an EH sump and pickup.

If I am overlooking something or could do something better, please let me know, this will be the first red I have attemped to mess with!
Cheers
Matt

Looking for Old Caravans!!!! especially 1950's ply ones! Thanks!

May be better to fit 186S type carby set up(2 barrel similar to 253)I think it may be a little bit more reliable than twin set up and port match to head.

if it ain't broke we can improve it.

Sounds good to me, but I agree with Steve on the WW Stromberg. See if you can get an original set of 186S headers and inlet manifold. This will also allow you to run an auto choke. This setup with a mild cam is perfect on a 161 to 202.

The 186S look is good too,you would want to put a good cam for towing in nothing too lumpy.

if it ain't broke we can improve it.

I like your thinking, something with a bit more duration and lift than standard will give you everything you need! Porting your head will also show its benefits! Not only in regards to performance, but it will allow your motor to breathe better!

If you are going to spend money converting the head gaet a black carby or injected head they are the same except the carby one has air injection ports just block them with plugs. The black heads have far superior porting, larger XU1 type valves and 3 angl
