We can tell you that it is worth $100k. But you need to find someone to pay that for it.
Bang it on eBay with 100k reserve and see what the bidding gets up to. Then you will have a true figure of what it is worth, cos it is worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

`What ever you spend on a car expect about 40% back when you sell it` ,this was once written in a Street Machine magazine. I would think its almost true unless you picked it up very cheap before hand !

if you are trying to cost it up then its either too much for what it really is or you want to profit from it? your original question indicates that its already done up so people are answering as per the resale climate now.. if it needs to be restored then its worth 7 to 15k dependant on how bad it is..if its tidy original or done up then its gunna be mid to high 20s... its not desirable enough in colour to get high 30s to 40s in this climate. going to church makes you no more a christian than standing in a garage makes you a car... www.classicozwreck.com.au |

cloudy i reckon thats close to the mark if you chequebook the car, but if you buy right and do ALL the work yourself you can make money..i havent lost money on a car in 30 years wether its my own or a reseller...but i can do all the work and im stubborn so i dont dump my cars.. mind you i buy a few like that.. going to church makes you no more a christian than standing in a garage makes you a car... www.classicozwreck.com.au |

Whats it worth , how long is a piece of string? I think the days of buying any car, let alone an aussie muscle car these days in this climate and turning it for profit are drying up! Lets face it some of the so called restored cars are f***ed , full of bog and ill fitting panels and aksing prices that are just insane !! buy one of these and then you have to spend another 10 grand fixing the f*** ups.also the cars advertised as original that have the wrong engines , re painted , wrong chassis ( hq etc ) its a f***in mine field out there .sad thing i saw on ebay an orig gtr lj that had been kept by an owner for over ten years with grass growing over it and had just completely rusted out and decided to sell a now completey f***ed rare collectible car out of pure greed .instead of selling to someone years earlier when it could have been saved . we need to respect these rare low volume cars and not let them rust away because you cant get a million bucks for it . these cars should be networked within clubs anbd sold to enthusiests who will restore and enjoy driving these vehicles and not to sell of for profit .

That article is spot on, and it's got a coupla home truths in it, even for the lowly HK Prem owner who has overcapitalised as well. At least I've enjoyed it and I can see Dr T's 40% return point very clearly, lol.
You will have to join to see the article.

there is only 1 car in that article that i believe they have got grossly wrong ... and that is the hq gts 350 coupe..that price is more to the gts coupe not a 350 gts .. if someone has a 350 gts coupe for 25k i will buy it. going to church makes you no more a christian than standing in a garage makes you a car... www.classicozwreck.com.au |

I just saw this thread. I'm with Frank. A 253 auto LX SS is just another low spec semi-performance car. No different to a 253 HQ-HZ GTS. If it was immaculate unrestored then good money would change hands but more for the unrestored and immaculate tag, not the SS tag. Toranas have got stupid of late, better value exists in GTS and Monaro.

We keep saying how bad the market is but when i see this http://australianmusclec...-gts-monaro-bathurst-350 it still proves that people are still willing to pay good money for the right car.

To answer your question id say LX SS 253 auto 25-30K. If the market is soft and the wheels are falling off the muscle car dream, lets say 12K.
