Hi all

Heard a rumour? Put your Nationals gossip here.

Heres mine (came from an unreliable source (Bloody Frank) so I cannot confirm....or deny):
Don't tell anybody but the Beige Nasco Monaro has been subject of an extensive rebody....is now a Picardy Red Bathurst 327 and a Picardy Red Bathurst 327 has also been the subject of an extensive rebody and is now a Sandstone Beige Nasco Monaro both cars are owned by Nick...and Nick so I guess if we both swapped cars no-one would know any better.... The big question is: Will Ben notice?????

8 F1 World titles. 10 Bathurst wins......HA!HA!
Grafton Speedway Club Rookie of the year 2006...True....

HQGTS:
Pinaroo Beige duly noted.

DOH the bloody water bag! Ben will notice that. I'll have to remove it and give it back to Nick.

I think I can get away with it then ..... 'cause I don't think Ben will notice the Opel 4 speed and banjo diff behind the 327.

I always thought that waterbags were factory standard on all HK Series 2 Bathurst 81837 models. I can see a protest coming.

If you give too much info it is no longer a rumour.

Actually Terry the reason that Byron's HK is not there is that it was originally a Newcaste car and they all came standard with chrome grease nipples and double overhead fox tales when the FJ was retired. The last of these are no longer available, he is trying to find a 1970s fox or two to lop the tails off. Getting the date code right is the problem.

The new plastic ones from rare spares are too easy to pick. Byron has already complained to them about the quality.

Word is, and this he did want to keep quiet, sorry Byron. He is looking at importing one from England. However as the original foxes imported here in the 1800s became crossed with a dingo, he has to get some dingo DNA into the import. One option is to send a sample of dingo manhood to england and have a fox artificaially inseminated.

I am sure that he will corner the Newcastle market with these period correct fox tails.

Ive heard from a reliable source that someone, possibly a member of this Forum, is about to launch a new product on Ebay, just in time for the Nationals. It will be appropriately called Genuine Original N.O.S Bathurst Monaro GTS 327 Tyre Air The BIN (thats Buy it Now) price is expected to be $1,000 per box. One box will contain exactly enough original air to inflate a 6.95 X 14 Cross Ply tyre. This product is unsuitable for Radials, so that leaves me out. However, quite a few people are expected to take advantage of this amazing offer.
So, if you see Judges at the Nationals bending over a car and expelling air, then sniffing it, theyre just trying to determine if the air in the tyres is the genuine, original stuff.

I really liked the HT Premier antique gold carpet in the concourse winning car. and the chrome scuff plates off a GTS goes very well with this particular colour carpet. But on a base type model HK???
I guess the more extras than a showbag had em' fooled huh?
Fantastic cars, could'nt understand the judging completely though.
Congratulations to Nick however.
Thought all the Kelly cars were extremely special, and was very dissapointed that someone so young and dynamic only got a small pat on the back and sent home with the survivor trophy. I hope this young man does'nt get deterred by the politics, and is able to be recognised for what will probably go down in history as the single biggest effort at any nationals by the one person. Nuff said!

The carpet and scuff plates are legitamate options on the car, ust like the 186, 4 speed, floor shift etc. pauls is also optioned.

The judging of concours is very difficult, and although the Paul Kelly car is very good, Nick's car was beter. Options has nothing to do with it, infact options can get you in more trouble as there are more things to get right.

Paul knows why he did not win, he maybe able to fix this one day and then will beat Nick. The fact is also that the car is great, and recieves a lot of recognition.

Yeah thanks Warren.
I agree with you wholeheartedly on the recognition part. It is extremely important for the movement as a whole to choose the most easily recognisable, and popular vehicle.
With a viewpoint to expand out further for more enthusiasts to join.
Do you think perhaps a powerpoint presentation on the winning car outlining the owner as well as the judges reasons for making a certain
car the winning one?
I realise this probably politicizes furthermore one of the greatest shows in Australia today, I just could'nt help but notice at the awards night a lot more work on the presentation could easily be achieved. With a minimum of fuss.
Thoughts on the whole was what a fantastic show and I look forward to the next one in W.A.
Erik.

To go into why each car won we would still be there now. It may sound like a good idea, but each trophie would have to be done.

We are continueing to improve the whole thing, but you can get a hold of the criteria that we use and then look from there.

The judges look at parts of the ca that many glance over, making it difficult for some to see why a car won. It is not about picking the most popular or recognisable, its about finding the car that best fits the criteria, and the Concours class this year Nick's was the best entered.

Paul has a copy of the criteria and if he wishes to fix the parts on his car that do not fit the criteria then he can, as can anyone else for that matter.

The biggest problem with restored Monaros is the top spec cars have always been "expected" to win over the "lower" spec cars. But I am yet to see a how luxury level and options has anything to do with originallity.
