I actually have a 10 litre original metal container of Dulon HK Picardy Red paint dated 8/68. Its all in there and still in good condition. We've stirred it a few times and Pete from Classic & Muscle has used it for a shade reference. Anyone want to paint a HK Monaro in 1968 lead based Picardy Red paint and enter it in Concours? |

I think I've still got a litre of A type with some rusty bits in it, should work. Anyway acrylic thinners doesn't have any lead in it so you should be right to use it as long as it's not yellowish and cheap (thats gunwash). lacquer thinner is primarily toluene, with betanone (MEK), some MIK, methanol, acetone and some other stuff

nah, not interested would have to be E type or it wont be original A type is too new & wasnt introduced till 1983 (maan that ud be even worse than putn ht carpet in a hk! larfn my saggie titties off) then AAA came in after that

Thats why i was selling date coded Air i collected on a recent trip to Antarctica , to sell to the Monaro fraternity, but Warren told me it was not allowed in Concours only Survivor class ! LOL E Type thinners what a larf !!! And use your Paint wasting era "Binks Bullow" gun ? Dave i still have some "Wildfire Flake'in an ancient tin if ya wanna sparkle up ya crusty ute !!1 And a poxy old tin of "Recall" Type Transparent Red paint made by "Brolite " years ago to replace the ever so fast fading original HK GTS boot mould paint , but was not game to use it myself ! www.monaromuscleparts.com

Ahhhh, AAA. That brings back so many fond memories. The switch from stark orange shades on the can to a relaxing brown. The hazy summer afternoons punctuated by the waft of a freshly opened tin of prepsol and never a glove to be seen. The days when you applied bog with a trowel, not a skim applicator. cool. how much ya got & what ya want for it?? would really prefer wildfire super X if ya got sum o dat aye i painted me first road bike (CB 250 wit 310 kit) with that in 1982, dusted it over some dregs of dulon black black (which was replaced by midnite black by 1970) then coptious ammounts of ultra clear! i wasnt a rich dude then & only had a sampson meself! then i upgraded to a "defynik" limo gun of all guns oh now th memories are flowin? how much genuine brolite transparent red ya got for sale????? now that was sum good genuine shyte!!!!!!!!!!!!

right from the start, i was only hilighting the fact that the carpet was wrong model & colour. if it was black hk carpet to match console i woulnt have made a sound. i would like to check th judging sheets for last 3 nats to see whether it lost points for that. surely if it did he would have changed it b4 ballarat , or at least by warwick

But placing black carpet would be as wrong as any wrong coloured carpet. Just because it would match the console makes no difference.
If Nick, Paul and every other entrant was shown on their judging sheet what was wrong with their car is a great idea. Then they can find the parts and change them.
What happens though if they cannot find the parts. So lets take this example, if Nick's carpet is wrong and he has been told say at Loxton. He looks for 4 years and still cannot find any beige carpet. Then you would still be complaining.
If he put blue or red HK carpet in would this be better than simular shade HT carpet? I would say put in the simular shade myself.
In my opinion black carpet in his car would look like he made no effort to secure the right carpet. Both would be wrong and would draw the IDENTICAL response from the judges.
You whole gripe is that he has a different wrong to you (you suggest black carpet fix). But they are both wrong. You measure degrees of wrong, there are no degrees of wrong in concours.

Have had a great thought Davo. After each nationals the entrants are given a list of faults/errors/etc with their cars and must have them rectified by the next event or they cannot enter. We would do the same for modified cars. This will give us continual improvement and all Monaros at the nationals will be perfect in a few years. The idea that an owner can just leave the car the way it is because they like or cannot afford to improve it further it is just not on. Warren I think that is a great idea. I would like to know what needs attention on my car as well, then i have 2 years to rectify. If however parts are no longer available then in NOS form and /or repo parts are yet to be done this should be taken into consideration Carpe Diem |

I could just imagine the sh!t fight this would cause. If the judges made just one single error, there would be demands of a recount made, punch ups in the dunnies (aka Ballarat) and just way too messy. Hence in the rules, Judges decision is final. I would love to know what I could have done to improve the Coupe 4, for it to win the export class this year. But on the day, the judges decided it was not good enough. The ASMF guys know their stuff, so I am happy with the decision. But for the original guys, all they have to do is ask for a blank copy of the judging sheets so they can judge their own car. Go over it and make sure that it has all the required items. But to give out the completed judging sheets or a list of what is wrong is a bad idea. Just to help out a noob, what does a judging sheet look like? Would it assist owners assess their own vehicles and steer them to rectify errors?
As an example, my 2nd type Pagewood car has suffered the usual disinterest from previous owners so has such things as an internal regulated Alternator, missing spare wheel bolt and nut, battery cables re-routed and shortened for clamp type terminal poits and parts store HT leads. How can i obtain info on what needs attention and most importantly, what parts to replace with?

If you're looking for the genuine real deal alternator, then James has one of those with the correct pulley,fan, sticker and backing. I don't have his phone number handy, but he is a great guy to deal with. Dirty Davo from Bellarineclassicautos there in 2/56 Sun street, Moolap ph 0412109239 is another must have phone number. Simon Pinnegar from the 69cult down in Adelaide does a lot of parts restoration work, and he is well known for his eye to detail. And to round it off, a special man named Doug Welfare, also known as Doug the monaro man. ph 0431000327 from the border towns of Albury/Wodonga. All 4 of these people are well known to the HKTG fraternity. If they can't help you with what you're looking for, then the car you own is'nt a KTG.
