Maybe I'm wrong and we'll see what you guy's think.

To my mind things here have slowed down since the Holden thread was split. Most people used to ignore the "Pub" thread and just put their thoughts on the Holden thread.

I liked it better the old way where you could see what was going on without changing forums.

Or was it just the "Nationals" and normal transmission will resume shortly?

I'm with you. Have only looked at The Pub once since it was poked way down the bottom. My interest is Holdens, that's the only place I browse.

Agreed. I dont really think it was necessary to make these changes. Seemed to work fine the way it was.

well, i sorta said it was confusing when bigcav announced that he was splitting it up, posted it the thread he started, which has since been pulled btw, and he sorta in a not so welcoming kinda way was questioning my understanding of the changes and i got the feeling of the good ole "like it or lump it".
i chose to lump it and just stumbled across this thread by pure accident..

I must admit I haven't fully understood the "why". I'll have a look into it.

You've just made my point for me, exactly as you said people skipped posting in the pub and posted in the Holden thread, the pub was there as a separate forum for a reason but few were using it properly

just so you understand it from my personal view, I dont read the Holden forums other then threads I need to, it wasnt affecting me either way, it was affecting plenty of other people tho as I was getting constant complaints every day and the forums were split as a request by your fellow forum members

Its a case of you cant please everyone but I had to make a decision as numerous members were tempted to leave.

I honestly think its working well, yes you now have to click on 2 forums taking an extra 2 seconds to do if you choose to browse the forums like that but there is a far superior method of checking out whats new with fastlane, at the top left of the screen is a button called active topics, it will list all the new posts since your last visit showing which forum they are in

As pictured here:

Theres no having to swap forums, all the information you need to read is listed right there

if you choose to then browse fastlane forum by forum after youve read threw all the new posts you can now choose between the 2 different Holden sections depending on if you want tech info or just to catch up with Holden gossip etc

Using the forums this way you dont miss anything and then can also narrow down threads into proper categories if you choose to browse it the old school way depending on your needs

I think people have taken to it properly, just check the picture above, correct style of threads in the correct forum, its easy to tell by the thread names what youre going to read

I read that some of you say that it was working fine before, but it wasnt, it might of appeared so but by the number of complaints I was getting it just wasnt for some people, this way had far more pro's then it did con's

I like it. I come here for informed discussion about Holdens, not to sieve thru post after post of drivel from wewreck bagging any one who in his opinion has paid too much/is asking too much/won't put a big block/tubs/likes to keep his/her car original.

I believe the (minimal) change is working well. It's really not a difficult concept to get one's head around (it's only one additional sub-heading after all!). It certainly appears to have lifted the quality of posts and responses, especially in the Tech section. Like any new change it can take a little time to get used to, but with a little perseverance in using the correct forum, it will work well and familiarity will settle in.

BigCav hit the nail on the head when he said the forums weren't being used correctly. Simply put:
1. The Pub is still there for the fun stuff and good natured 'chesting' each other
2. General Discussion is well really, just that, and
3. Tech section is for queries relating to 'how do I fix ...' etc.

Importantly, he's also explained how to use the 'Active Topics' so members don't necessarily have to click between forums. This format is used by many other motoring forums without any issues (and they often have several more sub-headings thrown into the mix as well).

Give it time fellas, I guess the simple answer is if people don't like it or can't get used to it, then there are other forums to choose from. Unfortunately, Moderators can't be all things to all users, so I for one dips me lid to BigCav for having the testicular fortitude for making a change and sticking to his guns.

I like the changes. It seems to have reduced a lot of the stupid posts that have been appearing on these forums lately.

You did ask in your initial post what people thought, and I've responded accordingly but you appear to have the hump with my reply because I dont agree with you! I wouldn't expect everyone to agree (after all this is the purpose of a 'forum') and it would be dull world if we all agreed on everything.

I'm not interested in telling anyone what they can or can't do either, even if it does sound like I'm stating the bleedin' obvious! I've been a regular reader/irregular poster on fastlane for the past decade or so and there has been a noticeable decline in the quality of posts recently. Im all for change if its going to improve things and in this case I believe it is an improvement.

Not a troll either, mate. But I think you've misinterpreted my views and tone as perhaps I've misinterpreted yours, I guess thats the one of the hazards with forums/emails!

cheers Franklin

Well, Franklin it's like this...

BigCav did an excellent job of presenting his position, you in your reply went into detail as if to clarify his post, hence the "do you think we are dummies" comment.

Ahhh, I am not a spoilt child so I do not have the hump and I actually like it better when people don't agree with me, it stimulates discussion.

I don't think that I've misinterpreted your comments, I detest pomposity and did get a whiff of it from the tone of your post.

You did in fact tell us what we could do, "if people don't like it or can't get used to it, then there are other forums to choose from" which was a tad harsh I thought.

I agree that there has been some off topic posting as well, but most of it was good natured and unfortunately tainted by the odd individual becoming obnoxious. I for one enjoyed some of the gee up's, for example, the blow up because someone wanted The Monaro Story reprinted, priceless.

Anyway, you are entitled to your opinions as am I.
