Hi all. Expressions of interest are being invited to those who would be interested in participating and or entering in the first ever National event open to all HK HT HG Holden variants.
It is only early stages at the moment. Location would be in Adelaide and would be a two day event. Show n shine day and BBQ cruise day. It will be presented by HKTG Parts Recovery and I will try to get the Monaro Club of SA and the FJ-HZ of SA to support it.

Let me know ideas for categories, judging etc. I'm open to all feedback.

Are there any other HK to HG clubs around?

Would you open it to the public, ie non club members, like the Monaro nationals or club members only like the FB/EK Nationals?

I would start with 1 stock and 2 or 3 modified classes. either modified and show or mild custom, modofied and show. Look at the second Monaro nationals on how they managed the 3 modified and one stock class.

Most nationals are at easter and go for 4 days, but if 2 is a start then so be it. (first Monaro nationals was 2 days)

The team of organisers iswhat makes it work, talk to John and Durwin from the Monaro club about the work load.

He would be referring to you and you better develop thick skin like Warren if you want to pull this national event off.

Simon, it sounds like a marvellous idea! Finding a date for it could be tricky though. I have already spoken to Dave about it, and we both agreed the date is going to be your biggest hurdle. Get it wrong, and you'll be getting postcards from the Bendigo super swap, you get the picture right.
Enough of all that, where do I sign in my 2 x 69 HT Premier wagons?
A lot of people have been wanting something like this for a very long time, so consider this as my full support.
Get the support of the Monaro fraternity as well Simon. The show at Warwick was absolutely superb, and their experience with these matters are second to none.
More support=More success.

my tip for you for a successful nationals, steer well clear of the monaro people as they live in their own little world of genuine rivets, vinyl, tags and nasco.

put them in blair athol near sawka's joint and his boys be the judges haha

Feb 30th and 31st are already taken up as these are the dates that Frank will be pushing his gelatis on a willing public. You should ask him the whereabouts as it's something you don't want to miss. :-)

Yes I was considering opening it to the public and not just clubs. I really want a celebration of all the models in the range and cant really exclude the coupes. I am not aware of any HK HT HG clubs or any that have been in the past. Is it possible to hold one of these events without strict judging criteria? Would the event still get the numbers and interest if it was a bit more relaxed? What if the public upon entry recived a form and they judged what they thought? Has that been done before? Two days would be manageable for a start. See where it goes from there.

I think you should make an exception and allow WBUTE to enter his ute in the show. He can chuck a broken toilet and some pipes in the back to really set it off.

The public will come and see it, they did to the Monaro nationals. I went to the 48/FJ nationals for a look when in Beenleigh a few years ago. It was good to see some fellows that i had not seen for a while. So "build it and they will come".

Public judging is what was used at the first Monaro nationals. The problem is the number of cars and their location. Our problem was we had all the cars parked anywhere and then they had to choose the best 21 times. (7 models and 3 classes) Problem also arrisses that some models are hard for many to differenciate between, ie HJ/HX/HZ and HT/G, making it hard for then without looking at some indicator.

Then they had to remember the numbers of the best 21. It was a mess.

If you are going to use this method you need to park all "simular" cars together. So lets say 2 classes, 3 models, two variants will mean 12 groups

HK:
stock comercial
stock passenger
modified commercial
modified passener

HT:
stock comercial
stock passenger
modified commercial
modified passener

HG:
stock comercial
stock passenger
modified commercial
modified passener

Alternative you can just have 4:

HK/HT/HG
stock comercial
stock passenger
modified commercial
modified passener

Or do not worry about the commercial/passenger (I am not a real big fan of the commercial and passenger thing, but many are. Our All Holden day even pulls out the Monaro due to the numbers that once turned up, do not do that, we have resisted the calls to pull the HSV out for their own class)

So you could end up with just 2 or 3 classes:

HK/HT/HG
Stock
Mild custom
Modified

Is there any real reason why an HK could not be in the same class as HT and HG? I know that some of the early owners would say that an FC has more bling than an FE and therefore more likely to get the votes. The same with FB and EK, and the EJ/EH would also argue that they have a disadvantage. I cannot see any reason for this argument in the HK to HG or HQ to HZ for that matter.

This way three parking areas, pick one car from each parking area and then you tally the votes and you have a winner. KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid)

I do have problems with people's choice on stock class as the public would not know in most cases. The Queensland and Sydney Monaro clubs use this method for their club judging, and cars won due to the popularity/intgrity of the owner rather than the originallity of the car. When I put the proposal forward to the Monaro club of Victoria re stock judging for the 2000 event, one of the points was that one day one of these cars will be advertised as winning best stock Monaro at a Monaro nationals, so it better be the best that was there. We have seen several of these cars advertised since 2000, even one from 1998 which advertised as a trophy winner, it had a sports stering wheel and would have been in a modified class, but was making out in the ad that it was stock and the wording "suggested" it won stock class.

Just some thoughts.

Not wanting to sound negative, but isn't there some standard or something similar that must be met in order to call the event you propose a Nationals? You have a great idea ahead of you and we would want it to be a success for all concerned. After reading some topics on here for a few hours this morning, perhaps no classes and no judging is in order? Just have everyone roll up and enjoy the fact that similar cars are all together in one place. A people's choice award and nothing else may be the best bet. Good luck to you Simon.

Exactly what i have been saying for years D.A . Get the cars together have a few laughs , give everyone who needs it a poke in the ribs and move on .
Let the people decide which car they like the most , and so be it if it is not perfect. As i realise the public do not know the intimate details , but they know what they have liked the most.
So If you then think you have a 1000 point concours show winner then when Warren brings in his NCRS Style Judging system you will have an acredited judge come to you house to have your car certified .
Then on the day of the car show you can decide whether you would like to bring your car along , and you wont be competing against anyone as your car has already been certified , so if you want to leave your car at home you name will just be called as per how close to 1000 your car is certified for .
Judging without strict guidlines always just ends in tears .

for once i agree with meaty above with what he writes in his first sentence.
now, i have asked this question before and got no answer with any merit, so i will ask again, just who sez and who is who in the zoo when it comes to what is right and wrong when it comes to judging what should be where and which is what???
as you have just seen the sh1tfight about trim and engine bay runs and carpet.
does someone immediately become an expert judge just because he/she has collected literature or production bulletins, written a book, or dismantled 1000's of cars??
as all the experts in here should know, there is just way to much grey area when it comes to production lines in the 60's and 70's so therefore as much as i respect the knowledge of some in here, i believe no one is 100% qualified to judge anything.
just have a gathering simon, a huge get together, its easier, safer and more enjoyable and have it in the same place every year, thats how mcdonald bros started the bright rod run and johnny katansis started the picnic, now look at it, bigger than ever.
forget about judges, guru's, book writers and wordsmiths in here armed with fancy cover books and flash lap tops with wikipedia and holden forums saved as favorite's and used for reference whilst they peruse cars

Yep totally agree with Frankie on all counts .
Everyone has a bit of knowledge here and there , but there are too many grey areas to ever get a NCRS system in place anyway .
So yep fun and frivolity for all, and enjoy the cars and maybe even more will turn up .
As people can then simply appreciate people who have made their best effort on their cars rather than be "judged" on what they have got wrong.
