West or East I don't give a rats about where you live or who can afford what.
I just love the cars and the people generally and I am having a great time at this stage of my life.
If it is a $2k klunker or a one hundred pointer I am interested.
I have a mix of cars in the shed at any time.
At the moment I am playing around with a $1000 XC V8 Fairmont and I am loving it. I am cutting some rust out and doing some mechanical repairs.... great fun.
When it is finished I'll even get to cruise a little in her before I sell it. Fantastic!
100 pointers are great. A lot of people look at my Red Monaro and think wow it would be great to own that. But I have to tell you it can be painful. Can't drive them too much. Can't park them out of sight, have to look for 100% perfect parts, has to be correct etc.
You can get just as much if not more enjoyment from just owning a good old school car which is in average to good contition with a fraction of the worry!
Any way, I am way off topic.
A category at this year's Nationals I was (as many of you would know) most interested in was HK Factory authentic.
I know my car has some issues within this category I will publicly state that the old Red warhorse could have done well in that category. What are your opinions?
Also do you think I should concentrate on bringing it more into line with this category for future Nationals or should I preserve it and simply keep freshening it up , thus keeping it the way Jeff Brown restored it?
I am in two minds about what to do with this car. It has been a very "public" car and was restored by a man widely recognised and respected within the Monaro fraternity who was the subject of a memorial trophy at this year's Nationals.
I agree with Tony about being a custodian of a car like this one rather than an owner ans as such feel some responsibility to keep it as Jeff built it. So chasing the Factory authentic category will no doubt alter it from Jeff's perception of Correct which took it across the line at the very first Nationals a Wangarratta back in 1998.
After much discussion in the lead up to Warwick I entered it in the Mild Custom Category which it won. Amazingly it is basically unaltered from the way it was presented in 1998... still winning trophies. Testament to the quality of Jeff's work and Steve Clarks meticulous care.
Any comments would be most appreciated.
Cheers
Nick Moran.
