OK where to start. Firstly the old coupes have a lot of water/dust traps in them. Some areas were also not treated properly from when they were built in the factory. Under the plenum being a perfect example. Make sure all the drains work, like in the doors, sills etc. My panel beater made the drain holes in the doors bigger so they wouldnn't block up again. Make sure when the rear window was replaced that the correct sealent was used. It needs to be the black stuff that never dries out. Can't remember its name but I'm sure someone here does. Also make sure all the rubber seals are in good nick.

Get the car rustproofed. Has to be something that never dries out. Quite a few products on the market and I've no idea which is considered the best now days though I wouldn't mind knowing myself. I've also been told that the electronic rust prevention thingys actually work now. Can't vouch for it but have had a few people swear it works. Apart from that keep the car garaged, take it for a drive after you wash it so it dries out before you park it.

That's all I can think of Phill. Going to have to get some cancer cut out of my old girl soon ( I hope ) plenumn, sill and bottom of a guard or 2. so I can honestly say I haven't always practiced what I preach.

I've heard a lot of people are using a lanolin based rust preventer. As for the electronic rust prevention there are 2 schools. One says how great it is and the other says it doesn't work. I've met a few people who have had them in their cars and four wheel drives and they swear the thing works. Do a google and see what you think. In the old days sump oil and diesel mix was used to coat the inside panels and sills. Bit messy and the enviromentalists would probably freak out.
