HI Guys.
This may seem an unusual request. Does anyone here know of, or have any record of the various different styles & colours used for rego labels in NSW over the years ?
I need the info to help out a guy supplying cars to movie & TV studios for period dramas etc. We have all the basic info on number plate numbers & styles but rego labels are different again.
So, if anyone has an old label intact on an old piece of glass or a label still on a car could you pass on that info, even for just that one year.
The labels seemed to remain pretty much unchanged from the 50s thru to the early 70s with just a different colour for each year. There were minor changes in the mid 70s & then they went to pictures, with a well-known landmark (& a change of colour) for each year. In the 80s they went to smaller square labels with no more info than just the month & year of rego. In recent years they've gone back to the larger rectangular style.
Any if anybody can help, just post your info.
I have 1971 as Aqua-Blue & 1972 as Red to start with. Any more ?

Will check all the old cars out at the farm. Most of them were last registered in the 80's.
Your other source might be a wrecker who still has a lot of old stock. Quinns wreckers in Cooma would be my first port of call. Pretty sure the crusher hasn't been through there yet.

Hi Dr. Terry, Just a though here but if the level of detail is to extend to the rego labels on cars used in these period dramas, then the cars themselves need to be in absolutely factory authentic presentation in terms of any area in shot. I'm specifically thinking of items like tyres, seat trim, carpets and the like where an incorrect item will attract the attention of the car perv who has tuned in to see the cars. I'll use the example of Ben Stewart's overall winning car at the Warwick Nationals in that car was just perfect in every way and that it just looked right no matter what the angle. Where an item is presented as 'authentic' then it must be so as many will use it as a standard as to what is correct for a certain timeframe.
One other thing I have to offer here on the images already posted is in relation to the year date of the labels. In the 1960s (and still today) in Qld for example, the year of expiry is the year of the label and not the year of issue as has been suggested by the labels displayed to date. I feel the people who have reproduced the labels here (note same serial number) have not done enough homework yet. If you bought a brand new 1971 GTS 350 in October of that year then it got a 10/72 label from the dealer when you drove it home. It did not get a 1971 label as some would think.

Oooops, well spotted D.A.Barnes.
The purple one in the first photo would only be correct if a dealer had put 6 months rego on a new or near new car car, stranger things have happened but I can't really see that event occurring.

Here is a 79 expire label. http://oldholden.com/ohf...oryZ101895QQcmdZViewItemAlswo good point here on authenticity of the car, but that also would only apply if the car was also new. Ie if they ,make a film/doco based in 1975, but have a HK in it, then authenticity of the car woud be irrellevent. What is very important though is the type of accessories fitted to these cars, ie a stereo would have to be period correct, no use having a cd player in 1975. Warren The best part about being wrong is the pleasure it brings to others.

I did notice the tyreson the HJ used in the first Underbelly. they were modern tyres, and stood out like the proverbial.
