how are trailer axles measured? from tip to tip, or from backing plate to backing plate, or what?
I can see problems either way.
I have a large single axle trailer and I want to make it a dual axle, so need the measurements.

If the new axle assembly has hubs with different bearing offsets then the actual axle itself will differ, so its length is somewhat irrelevant.

The only 2 critical dimensions are the flange to flange & the mounting points.

thanks Terry I did think it would be flange to flange, I would fit new hubs all round anyway.
the mounting points would not be hard to match as the axle is square and can mount anywhere along.
going to fit brakes as well, so will need plumbing for that, already got the towhitch on.
