Hi all. My apologies for posting this Frord topic on this forum. I have this problem with an EA falcon my brother gave me. I'm going to see if I can get it running properly before I wreck it. The EA falcon 6 cyl I have is surging and then dying. You have to flat foot it to start. Dies at idle and if I try to hold constant revs it surges. It never tries to die while I have revs but it surges and then back to normal revs and then surges again. I take my foot off and it dies. At idle I need to keep giving the peddle a kick to rev up. It has no power. The fuel pump is fine. I'm thinking either a carby problem (this has a carby with 2 electronic thingimibobs sitting in the throat of the carby.) Or timing or ECU RELAY. With the electronics on this car, I have no idea. Any ideas Dave Edited by user Wednesday, 20 October 2010 2:07:45 AM(UTC)

Could be a number of things. Throttle position sensor, dirty injectors, dirty plugs, MAF or MAP sensors....

Hi Dave
Is your EA a multi-point or throttle body EFI system ? The problems & diagnoses are different for each one.
You say the fuel pump is 'fine' but that doesn't necessarily make the fuel pressure correct. It may have too much, the only way to tell is to measure the fuel pressure in circuit.
You also say that you are 'thinking timing' but this can't change by itself & it would have to be a long way out to cause the dramas that you describe.
Measure the TPS & coolant voltages, check the hose to the MAP sensor for leaks. If it is an MPI, then check the regulator diaphragm for leaks.
Dr Terry
