Never seen rubber floor matting in a VB-VL, only VN/VG-VS base model utes & taxi-packs. I'll have to check the VB-VL parts books to see if one exists.

One for Warren, don't know if this is rare or not, but I have a engine oil cooler (new) that is fitted between the oil body and filter from a VN v6, actually would fit up to vs-vt. These were fitted to export vn's going to Saudi Arabia. (I may be corrected??) AL

For HK/T/G power windows were only optional for 4-door sedans & wagons. Dr Terry _________________________________________ When calculating a car restoration budget, be as accurate as you can & then double the final figure. It will be closer to the truth. |

What HQ 4x4? Did GMH build a HQ 4x4?

Wash your mouth out. There is no Jap gear in the Overlander. I believe that the running gear was Chevrolet, attached to the Holden motor. There were no HQs, only HJ, HX & HZ to my knowledge. While these were aftermarket, they still had Holden approval in the same way HDTs were built. Byron can add more, he is pretty well up on these. As Dr Terry says. Whilst there were HQ's converted to 4x4 by Arthur he never made one from a new vehicle. His prototype was made from a HJ 308 TH400 Sandman ute. Most were HX utes and vans. Only HZ's were wagons. Plus the odd Statesman and 1-tonner. These were not GMH product though, it was a separate manufacturer with their own ADR plate. Even further removed from GMH than HDT was.

He made one half track prototype for evaluation for possibly the US army as well. They used Dana diffs. They were too far ahead of their time. Holden still wont build a vehicle that is as useful as the Overlanders. True 4WD with a V8 and a full chassis.

Not all were full chassis wagons and statesmans were still monocoque.
They were a Dana44 front diff, Dana60 rear and Dana20 twin stick transfer case. From what I could determine it was all basically Blazer gear except the Blazers used a 44 rear diff. One other possibility was K10 running gear but with a HD diff. It wasn't K20 gear as these ran a bigger stud pattern from what I could determine. A lot of the bits were common with Jeep Cherokee and J10 Jeep as well. Mine was a mid 1978 1-tonner, and the diffs in it were 1974 spec. I found this out when I changed the inner front hub bearings, which changed in the Dana44 in late 1974. This correlates well with the AMC story about them, where it said Arthur bought all the stuff over and waited years for approvals. When you look under a ute, van or 1-tonner variant you can actually appreciate the simplicity of how the conversion was done. It wouldn't be all that hard to do the same thing to a modern leaf spring Ford or Holden 1-tonner.
