Bore size? $200-300 Maybe if its got mains caps, more if it has the date codes someone is looking for. Short blocks sell better..IE pistons rods crank..but condition and bore size are important. They are getting rarer and you could hang on to it,but along with that comes less lookers I suppose. If your not ever going to use it I would sell it.(as I have, sold a few)

If you can find out if it came out of a Monaro then it would be worth a lot to the person who has that original car. A check of the number through REVS, etc., will reveal the car it came out of and if it is the subject of any 'issues'.

It's the right area for a late HQ Sandman or HQ GTS so stick it on Ebay and see what happens. You'll just have to put up with all the stupid Ebay idiot questions! As DA says if the origin of the engine was a GTS or Sandman and the car is still around it is gold to them. You'll struggle to find the original car though.

what about a HZ gts block? worth anything over a regular issue 308?
11.38@117mph will go quicker
11.34@121mph went quicker and faster, just not quick enough.
now being rebuilt with less cam, much less comp, and a turbo.

thats what i thought, because the car went to scrap and likely came back as a substandard girder from china long ago when i was too young to care and too stupid to hang on to it for future resurrection.
I kept the engine/dash/tags though I wish i kept the whole car lol.

If you ever want to part with the tags (swap for something?) and it was a manual i'm interested, as I am missing HZ GTS 308 manual from my collection.

it was 308/t400, The block is the one i use in the green car now, so unless it was worth stupid dollars ill probably just keep using it. I kept the tags off every car i ever owned that got crushed/wrecked/destroyed, mainly because i didnt want the tags ending up on someone elses car that was less than legitimate, and secondly, have you had a good look at most scrappy's, i know a bunch and i dont trust them for a second lol. (tongue mostly in cheek with the second reason :))

i have been keeping hold of 60 thou QTxxxx blocks, (which i mostly get for free) as its only around $700 to get them re -sleeved. i sold a STD bore (needed to go to +0.020) QT block suit 6/1971 car for $1000. about 2 years ago. Just the block. the "know it all italian" needed it an i knew it. he paid... Aussie patter 308's are getting Very very hard to find , particularly less than 40 thou..+ everyone needs toem to go back to original. Tuning for Holley carbs in Perth? PM me. Bugger, i'll find a set of manual ones someday! Many of the better tags in my collection came off cars in a scrap yard: L31 XX7 HJ van, LH SLR 202 M40, HX GTS L31, LC GTR just to name a few. _______________________________________________________ If we all had the same (good) taste, who would buy all the Fords? |
