Needforspeed,

You have to start somewhere.

I am 36 and it was only this year that I have been able to buy the ute I wanted for such a long time.

Just depends on your priorities at the time.

Here's my list in order of purchase

AR Telstar Ghia
LJ Torana 1300
HB Torana 1300
VL Commodore 3L
Subaru 1600 wagon
WB Ute, started as a 3.3 is now 5.0 EFI, Still in driveway
HQ Ute
RA Rodeo 4x4 Diesel Still owned
1968 Landrover S2a Still Owned
120 Series Toyota Prado Still Owned

I got the Landy off my Dad as he had left it in a mates shed to rot. Also knew the two other previous owners. It's in great condition for a 44yo vehicle just needs some paint, seat cusions and every piece of rubber in the body replaced. Only wish it still had the original Landy 6cyl instead of the 161.

I love Mustangs, but I am not keen on that model.

Each to their own.

I nearly bought a 68 Chev Chevelle 12 months ago. Still kicking myself that I didn't. Another one will come up.

Wow, didn't know that people would remember the Ford Pilot.

My Mum & Dad have a 1948 Ford Pilot. Has a P76 alloy V8 in it.

Hi, nice to know all your cars that you usually drive. Well, we used to have our Toyota Revo model 2000 and since we sold it and look for a smaller one, now it is easier for us to drive an automatic black Galant 1999 model:)

These are the cars I have owned and all but the first and last were driven on the road (some not very far)
First car was a FE sedan, follwed by these:
ej sedan
fe sedan
hk 186s sedan
34 chev sedan
68 307 4 speed Monaro
HK Kingswood wagon 186 - 3 speed
HG Kingswood wagon 186 - 3 speed.
HK 307 auto Monaro
HZ Premier wagon 308 auto
186 HG auto Kingswood sedan
94 Landcruiser wagon
Current car 98 v6 Camry
75 Honda Civic 3 door 1200

My wife's first car is a 78 3 door 1200 honda civic which she purchased new. I have run this car at the local sprint series over 5 seasons between 2006 and 2014, still runs the original engine.

My HG wagon
Bought it as unregistered car in poor condition around 1976 and did a backyard panel and paint job. In 1983 I fitted to it the 307 motor from the 4 speed HK Monaro and powerglide and 10 bolt diff from the auto HK Monaro. Removed 307 and powerglide in 1989 and fitted reco 307 from second Monaro and a turbo 350.
Towed a 20 foot caravan around the country in 1990. Used this wagon with the 307 and auto to around 1994 when I refitted the 186 and a trimatic. Took this car off the road in 2000.

OK, I'll play, even though some of this ended up feeling like a "name and shame' exercise, but here goes, in roughly chronological order:

HT 186S 4sp Monaro
HT 350M Monaro
HG 308 Auto Monaro
HK 327M Monaro
XE 4.1 Auto Ute (As rough as hessian underpants, but bulletproof)
XF 4.1 S Pack Ute (The stickers didn't make it faster, sadly)
EA Falcon something. (Trying to forget)
EA Multipoint manual Falcon (All things considered, not a bad thing)
Nissan Maxima GV (Like a lounge room on wheels, and adds a zero to your age)
Toyota Lexcen (White goods)
VS V6 auto Commodore Wagon (Not a bad thing)
XR8 Rebel manual (Chronic clutch problems, breathtakingly expensive rubber, but still a fun thing)
Territory TS AWD
Nissan X Trail (Rubbish)
Nissan X Trail (Later model rubbish)
Hyundai i35 (Marginally Better, but still rubbish)
Territory TS AWD
Territory TS Diesel

How can you blokes bucket Fords all the time when you've never had the joy of owning one?
I can remember when it was a choice between a Ford pill or a Ford car.

I've had one that I owned and two that were work cars. All three (XF, EB and ED) were better than their 6cyl Holden equivalents, but that has essentially always been the case apart from the few odd cases where the Ford V8 has been far superior. If you wanted a 6cyl buy a Ford, V8 buy a Holden.

That's why I have an FG LPi6 and a VE V8.

Cheers,

Bullshit !
4.1L XF vs VK 3.3L I would go the VK any day and the 3.0L VL, the XF was a slug.
4.0L EB ED vs VP VR 3.8L yes I would have the EB ED any day.

Ford 6 cyl were only because they were bigger engine mainly, now if we go back to the XK, the XK was better engine than any Holden grey rubbish but the Holden Red 6 cyl engines were better than the Falcons at the time.

What Ford V8 was better than a Holden V8.

My XF was 1986-1987, far better car than a VL 6cyl or a VK carbied engine for that matter. Bigger car, nicer to drive, bigger engine. I wanted a decent sized car not a toy. The EFI 4.1 were a really good thing too.

As for Ford having a better V8 available, or having a V8 when GMH didn't there are a few times when this is true. XR being the first, GMH didn't have a V8 in Holden, only in Chevrolet and Pontiac. In the premium performance cars that followed there wasn't a huge gap between them, HK GTS327 was marginally more powerful than the XT GT, but the XW-XT GT-HO was marginally more powerful than the HT-HG GTS350. However you could buy a 351 Fairlane soon after and for a long time, and GMH only had the 350 Statesman from 1971-1974. Also you could get a 351 in lots of other Fords from XW-XE, but no HT-HG outside of GTS350 had a 350, and minimal HQ had a 350 available. Yes the 308/304 was a better engine than most 302's, but if you wanted a big engine the Ford was your car. Since XE it has almost always been the case that Ford had the better 6cyl engines, and GMH the better V8.
