For years Holden have tried to market themselves as Australian cars (Remember football, meat pies, kangaroos and Holden cars?)
So why come up with an American name like Holden Colorado?
Why not Holden Uluru? Kakadu? Pilbara?
Maybe Holden think we have become so 'Americanised' that no-one would care!

it sounds better than calling a car a "cRaptiva"
or what about the "holden nova" Nova in spanish means no go... quite appropriate really

Weren't they called Colarado overseas already? So they just adopted the name, just like the Suburban? Similar deal with the Commodore name. And Caprice, Deville.

Calais is a town in France. I agree though, they should have names them after the creek on the road to Dubbo called Flyblowers Creek. Now that is a name for a Australian ute. The Holden Flyblowers Creek range of commercial vehicles!
We name all our football teams the same as the sepos as well. No points for originality in Australia anymore. I mean the Cowboys, come on, since when have we had them in Australia?

While we are on the topic, FX to WB commercials are not stylesides or wellbacks, tray backs or any other sepo name. They are utes, one tonners or panelvans/vans.
we do not have license plates on our cars, we have the license in our wallet and a number plate on our car.

That is one of my pet hates too. They are Holden utility, Holden Panelvan, Kingswood utility, Kingswood Panelvan and Cab/Chassis. Not sure who started the whole wellback and styleside thing in Australia. Maybe it wa sthe Ford blokes as AU onwards actually have a wellback?

Mind you the Kingswood name was used on a Chev wagon,
Calais and Deville are from Cadillac, Excutive was used on Packards in the '5Os
fairlane and falcon, futura,fairmont, for henry's Aussie tat are American too.

vancraft and carshine back in the late 70's really pushed stepside stuff, and i can remember carshine calling the new WB a "sharp looking styleside" when they first fitted a caprice front to it, so its been going on since then, and a place in heidelberg vic where selling setsides to fit HQ-WB 1 tonners and the where calling them traybacks then as well, so nothing new about it. ford guys call even there small stuff such as ranchero etc, "pick ups" even more so that the chev guys, they feel the need to call there silverado's S10's etc "trucks", small pecka syndrome i'd say, bit like GM guys here.

SUV is something that really s***s me lately too.
I cant get the "canyonero" jingle out of my head when i hear the term and look how good those cars were, lol.

Agree with the SUV thing. There were plenty of Holden one tonners around with stepside bodies on them, mostly tow trucks. Where did all those tough as nails Holden one tonner tow trucks go by the way.

Totally agree, yeah they all sound very foreign, unholden. My wife was born in Detroit, Michigan and I joke with her that the only decent thing ever to come out of the US of A was the carrier loaded with Chev parts they used in the HK monaro.....Jack

Speaking of Americanisms, in Australia, you open the BONNET to check the oil...... it's not a hood - a hood is what stops the interior of your convertible getting wet....

Is that the starter you fit the one that you "bRought" from the shop with cash? Another one of my pet hates - the past tense of buy is bought, not brought, and it is so common to see the wrong one used on forums.
Saw another classic recently. Instead of writing "the <insert difficult to remove item> was being a bastard" they wrote "it was been a bastard." I guess teaching kits to spell by phonetics isn't exactly working anymore... Man I had 2 swap out the hood on my styleside pickup cause the guy in suv hit a guy on the sidewalk and smashed into me. It was ok cause I got the guys license plates. This all happened in the precinct near the paramedics station which is near where the beach is that the lifegaurds patrol.
