from the add...
The Monaro has body number HK81837- 25029M, and the chassis number stamped on the firewall is HK2533M.

(The Vendor believes this to be a matching numbers vehicle)

sounds like a few dont...

Probably a mistype, and should be something like HK2533xM.

Errr, what is a "matching numbers" HK?

Maybe the numbers on the car match the owners manual or maybe they match the numbers on the rego papers or maybe... nah forget it I'm sick of the whole thing.

Ohhh, look a matching numbers HK just flew past my window.

I agree the numbers thing does get me down but the way i look at it is if your got 100k to spend on a car and it turns out to be only really worth 30k its not like ya couldnt afford it in the first place. im not implying this gts 327 isnt the real deal , if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck then ?? its a duck.

at $115000 its a good buy not that i'd pay that for one but all the work and parts put into it would exceed that amount if the numbers match or not.the numbers game is over and about time.its all about the car not the numbers thats why i have my car anyway thats me

EXACTLY!! As are many other people. That is why these things are being offloaded and prices are dropping.

People are just sick to death of the whole thing, too scared to drive them cos they might get damaged, and spares prices out of the reach of many real enthusiasts.

I honestly can not see these things ever recovering to their boom prices. I hope that the prices keep dropping, so these cars can be put back in the actual enthusuasts hands again, people that are actually going to drive them and enjoy them. Not put them in the shed and leave them there and hope to retire off the 'investment'.

yeah i drive mine everywhere and i mean everywhere anyone that knows me knows that my last big trip in my 307 hk monaro was with the family to warwick for the nationals round trip 5000 kms loved every minute of it!!

so there is no way on earth i wouldnt drive mine thats what there for and those people that have 327,s gt fords, e38 chryslers ect ect sitting in there shed and are afraid to drive them you may as well sell them and give it to someone that will drive and enjoy it!!

as edelbrock1 said if your planning on retirement with these cars you better think again i also hope the prices keep coming down so true car lovers can get one!!

back to the car in question its a very nice car so whats wrong with it if anything who knows but im sure if you paid 115k and there is something wrong with it you would be pissed and keeo the comment that if there was something wrong with it that its ok because you can afford it anyway well thats one of the most stupidest comments i have heard in a long time so you would be happy paying 115k for a car thats worth 30k i think not!!!

There is NOTHING wrong with that car. It is a case of the haves and the have nots. Those that do not have the car wish they did and will take to an anonymous public forum to slag off something they know nothing about. At the end of the day, the car has been sold and the buyer is very happy with his purchase.

You dont buy a house without an inspection ? If your going to spend alot of money on a car
make sure its what you want.I am talking in general not specifically any particular car.
Cars of a "higher"price range normally tend to hang around for a while, certainly long enough
to do some homework on them...just my thoughts.

Hi All

By now many of you know me and I now feel that I am a privileged member of the Monaro fraternity. It is a great thing to be a part of.

You also know I put my name after my comments.

People who remain anonymous have NO conviction or credibility and their comments should be ignored.

I can't get over how some of you can be so negative about a wonderful hobby!

Do you like seeing hard working people suffer financially?

Are you waiting for an opportunity to pounce on a fellow enthusiast's misfortune?

Do you enjoy making your contribution to driving the value out of an important specialised industry in Australia?

I do agree in not sympathising for greedy speculators who made hundreds of percent during the boom.

Like many people out there I paid top dollar for a top quality car. Like many I did not buy it speculating on its possible value increase even though I concede it would be nice to see my car at least hold its value. Like many I bought it because I have a passion for muscle cars.Like many I am not in a rush sell this or any of my other cars.

Sadly there are many honest enthusiasts who paid big money for the dreams they may have waited decades for.

The speculators came in, raided everything and left with handsome returns. The speculators who hung on for that little bit extra lost (or at best got their dough back).

At the peak of the boom many people (unwisely) accessed their home mortgages to buy a muscle car. Plenty of average cars changed hands for too much money. Things got tough and many cars have been subject to fire sales. Among them have been some real bargains with top quality cars going cheap because of their owners bad situations.

Right now the market is on a bit of a flat line and will probably remain so for some time. When the market improves collectables will follow behind.

Thanks to the internet and other things next time around buyers will be more savvy and cr@p cars won't go for outrageous prices again.
I think that the garden has been weeded.
Good cars will again hold good value.

I've always looked at the muscle car thing as a hobby that , if you look after your pride and joy, should reward you with a fair return which allows you to continue with it. I feel that this attitude is what has pushed continuous popularity of the hobby (along with the fact that Aussie muscle cars are just great!).

By the way Darren Atkins is a fair dinkum bloke. His Monaro is a fine example with a high profile and it is worth more than $115k.

We need the Byrons and James, the Rare Spares and Paul Harrisons, Terrys , restorers, upholsterers, panel beaters and parts reproducers.
(Edit): Not to mention Ben Stewart and Warren Turnbull.

Keep talking things down and they will all eventually dissapear.

Cheers
Nick Moran

Thanks Byron.
Edited accordingly.

My apologies to two people I would not have got to know if I did not have the passion for Monaros.

Cheers

Greetings, More than 72 hours have passed so here we go. But first we need to understand that although some good input has been put forward in this thread, as usual most have missed the point of all this.

The root of the issue with the car in question is that false claims have been made in the ebay listing in relation to the status of the car at Monaro Nationals events. This car was not at the 2002 Wangaratta event yet it is claimed it won an award there. Contact the event organisers and see what comes back in relation to the claim made. Same with 2004 Bathurst where a Silver Mink car with the same owner was present. Contact the event organisers just like 2002 and see what comes back. Warren Turnbull will tell you what awards were given in Concours class at 2006 Loxton and this yellow car did not win what is being claimed. The owner may have won some awards over time but not with this yellow car as outlined in the ebay listing where it is in print for ever. As I mentioned before, lies were told and that fact will remain. All cars have a history and many like this yellow car have a false history. Whether it was intentional or not, someone will get hurt in all of this one day. Thanks for reading correctly this time.
