Just wondering if i can get some feedback on how far a tank of LPG should last in my EL fairmont?
I seem to remember getting about 90% of the petrol mileage in my previous car, but only get about 400km dead empty in this one. Just had the idle stepper replaced which improved idle and stalling, but no MPG increase. The petrol seams to be reasonable with 550+km to the tank.
Its a tickford gas system fitted from factory( as far as i can make out from receipts etc)
Any ideas??

I'm no expert but I'm guessing Tickford would lean more to performance than economey. How hard does the engine go compared to your last LPG car?

No harder than the last one paul,(also a EL fairmont or if it does, then i cant pick it.) It sometimes just dies on accelleration like overtaking, switch to petrol and off it goes. 1/2 tank later its all good again and no probs till i full throttle again (this is mostly on the highway 100-110k)I dont tend to put the boot in on this car as a rule, its just a AtoB car--- have another one for that---

Takes about 70lt to fill so about a 90lt tank?? Is that right?

have you cleaned the gas filter recently?

or if its factory i think they have a vff30 which you need to dismantle, if it dies occasionally under high loads it could be struggling for supply

that sounds plausible...where would i find that bit of gear on the system?

Thanks all for the tech help. I'm guessing that i should be getting a few more K's out of it.
I just had a look on the www for the vff30 and found pictures and servicing info, thanks Bigcav, also info on de icing which might have something to do with the prob.
I'll do some maintenance and post the results

OK the story so far......
Tickford systems are standard for this model it seems, no advantage over other models.
The Vialle converter is the most expensive to buy, replace and service, and from feedback for some others offers no improvement over cheaper systems, in fact slightly worse.
It seems that this converter MUST have coolant in the radiator for it to work properly.
What is happening is that the water freezes in the converter and gradually blocks all heating till it simply pours liquid gas into the inlet.... rough idle and bogs down at speed. Converter is solid ice 5 min after switching off.
I park on a hill at home nose first, and the overflow constantly empties on cooling, so i was replacing the fluid with water (also i suspect leaving an air pocket at the rear of the cooling system where the heater hoses for the gas exit.. maybe an air lock of sorts?? dunno)
Anyway.... coolant concentrate in = smooth idle, gradual improvement in milage and no cutouts to date.
I dont know how to reset the Gas computer to see if this helps. Anyone know??

Resetting the gas computer should simply be a case of leaving the battery disconnected for an hour or two.

E series Falcons must have a good set of HT ;eads for use with LPG if not spluttering will occur if you are lucky if you are unlucky you will suffer backfiring.

My EB wagon used to get 400km out of 60L of LPG around town but it was a manual which seems to give far superior fuel economy to an auto Falcon. I've recently replaced it with a BA Fairmont Ghia which is obviously an auto. I get a around 300km out of 50L of LPG if that helps.
