Hi Guys.
As you may have noticed, I haven't been on the forum as regularly as usual.
I'm currently on a trip with a mate in the U.S.A. It's a bit of a 'horsepower holiday'. Last weekend we went to the Daytona 500 (Sat & Sun). Holy cr@p, NASCAR is way better live, it makes V8 Supercars & Formula One look like a Sunday school picnic. After 500 miles they had 8 cars bumper to bumper running hard all day & across the finish line. They had over 70 lead changes. They do what they call 'bump drafting' where instead of slip streaming they actual touch bumpers & the rear car continuously pushes the front car lap after lap. All this at over 200 mph, three wide, on 31 degree banked corners. They lap a 2.5 mile lap in 46 secs.
On Thursday we (hopefully) get to watch the Space Shuttle launch & next weekend the NHRA Winternationals at Pomona in California. Back in Aust Wednesday next week.

I remember the Nascar when it was at Calder park in the early 90's. Be good if we could get it back. |

Yes, I was watching Ambrose from the start. At the track you can rent a hand-held scanner with a TV screen. You can tune in & listen to the car to pits conversation live while the screen displays the running results or in-car camera shots of your choice. I reckon 20% of the crowd had one. It is better & more prcise than the TV commentary. Ambrose started from position 34 & was bump-drafting with car 7 & was in position 14 when the stack happened. None of it his doing, by the way. I'm no great Ambrose fan, but he is the only Aussie giving it a go in NASCAR.

I've seen a shuttle launch and if you're into horse power and noise you'll love it.
Make sure you take a full day to do Kennedy Space Centre. Check out the Saturn V.
I had a great day and it's the only place i've ever been where i pushed people out of the way so i could get INTO a gift shop!
