How much value does the original matching number engine add to muscle car? The car has its original three id tags. What I am saying is two identical muscle cars one with the original matching motor, the other with a non matching motor.

If it was a true muscle car like a ZL-1 Camaro you'd be talking big $, maybe up to 25%. This would probably translate over to Aussie collectables like HK-HG 1837, E49 etc too. For less collectable stuff like LS, Statesman etc maybe not as important but will still significantly devalue a car, unless it is modified (eg Chev instead of 253) then maybe not so much. |

Some buyers do not care unless for concourse etc. Most are happy if the tags match. I am in negotiations to possibly sell my HQ SS the fact that it does not have the original motor does not phase the intended buyer although it does have a 1972 period block. My 75 Statesman DeVille on the other hand is all matching numbers and has all the books and the sales receipt from new, this was a one owner for 30 years, This may be of some interest to a buyer if I chose to sell because all the history is there. It all depends on what the buyer is looking for. Some will pay the extra money and some wont. Edited by user Thursday, 3 March 2011 7:23:39 PM(UTC)

I'd say to the purists it would make a difference....
However, at the end of the day, the vehicle is worth whatever someone is prepared to pay for it. |
