Hi Just wondering if anyone knows what could be wrong with my territory ghia 4.0

It started to shudder when accelerating when i got home popped the bonnet looked down at the exhaust it was glowing red hot .

Thought it might be the plugs but had a look for the plugs and they arn't as easy to find as a old car .

Any help would be much appreciated.

the plugs are under the little cover strip in the middle of the rocker cover.

im not aware of any common problems to cause that tho with those model fords

Exhaust glowing red is a sign of either extreme load (which didn't happen here) or lean mixtures.

I'd be looking at your fuel side of things - get a fuel pressure gauge onto it & see if the pump/filter is still performing properly.

Suspects would be the fuel pressure regulator, the fuel filter, the pickup filter on the end of the pump, or the pump itself.
Cheers,

Mick

I had the same thing in our 05 Territory, shudders and loses power under acceleration. I thought the tramsmission was on it's way out but ended up being a sparkplug lead on it's way out instead. New lead and all fixed. Damned expensive leads though, cost me $268.00.

They don't have leads they have an individual coil on each plug hence the cost. Those coils do tend to fail after a few years.

There are sellers on eBay that sell Chinese ones for about $100 per set but there are also sellers that sell genuine ones for about $150 per set.

My BA started spluttering really badly on LPG even under a light load and I even suffered a couple of backfires.

Tried halving the plug gap (as you do on these with LPG) used dielectric grease on the coil booties but no avail I had to bite the bullet and replace the coils.

I did all six because they were the same age and KM and doing all of them is not much more effort than doing one once you have removed the gas mixer, duct and plug lid.
