Hello All, Today I saw a sight that made me want to cry.
An FJ ute on the back of a truck with an FJ sedan on top of it on their way to the metal recyclers. Neither looked overly rusty.
I know that they were FJ's because their grilles were still shining in the sun.
Scrap metal prices have caused insanity & these crimes against Australiana.

worst I ever saw was 2 years ago, guy tried selling a HQ Kingswood sedan, factory 4 speed, factory air & steer, dead straight & rust free, he was asking $2500 with a blown box, wouldn't budge on price, so after no takers after 2 weeks, he pulled off the GTS rims for his work trailer & sent the car to scrap for $300. some people are morons |

Last week at the Shell truckstop Rocklea there was a complete uncrushed HR special wagon with an old corona on top of it, when i went closer to investigate i could just make out the unbroken lenses of a WB ute that had been crushed and had others stacked on it. The very next day the same truck had a HR panel van and a sedan on it. They were probably all rooted (thta's what i tell myself anyway). It doesn't matter how rooted a holden is, or what model it is for that matter, every single car is sellable. What do the scrappers tell these people the metal is worth? Why don't they just stick them on ebay? at least give someone an opportunity to pay proper money for it. my mate used to cart scrap bins from the darling downs (south western QLD, around toowomba), and what he's told me he has seen destroyed leaves me shaking my head. once, he was threatened with dismissal because he pulled a front bar out of the inside of a car, it had been removed and stuck inside. he brings it round and shows me, it's off a vh-vk charger. i sold it for him on ebay for 300. the rest of the car was all there, but was forced to destroy it.
my two cents

I took 409kg of good clean scrap metal to Simms a few weeks ago. Most of it was cast iron suspension bits and other things much more substantial than body steel.
They told me that they pay $70 per tonne but what did I get for taking less than one tonne $30? No I got a paltry $13. Then there was the time that I took a car body there and they weighed it in with me out of my car then weighed the empty vehicle with me in the car thus trying to do me out of my own weight in scrap metal value.

we used to have a local scrap yard that was smart & once a week he would throw open his car stockpile yard & let you pull n pay for parts, alot of good stuff was saved, not only for restos, but also from going to land fill, as alot of stuff he sold was non metallic anyhow, like tyres, seats. seat belts ect, but the realy great thing was it was cheap, i have 2 HQ GTS guards in good nick I got off him for $30 each, a lot of V8 parts, a consul, the list go's on, but sims told him to stop it & ended up buying him out. |

Why are the Greenies not pushing for this to happen everywhere. Truly environmentally friendly & valuable parts get saved.

We had a Pick Pay n Go next door to my work, and they shut it down and crushed about 6-800 cars. A lot were Magna, Pulsar, Commodore etc. But there were a few dozen 70's and earlier. |

I used to have a good poke around the scrap metal truck when it came to do the rounds at work. Found a perfect HQ nosecone in there one day. Gave him $10 for it. Got some massive steel beams off them another day that they even dropped off my house. Working in a Motorbike shop helped as all the guys driving the trucks were into bikes.
