I always get confused with American terminology, which model is a 'styleside'.

To start with call it a ute as you are in Australia not the U.S.

also the old school name is wuntuna for a flatpack. i will proberly do a lot of old school mods on my styleside

He says styleside (ute) & you're saying that it's a One-Tonner.

I'm not being difficult it's just that it becomes a little difficult when some do not write & spell in English.

Hello Dr Terry. Holden released 2 different versions of the open commercial vehicle in the HJ series.
The first version was the Holden Utility, often referred to on the ID plate as a Coupe Utility but more commonly referred to by the general public as a "Ute" . This is the version I own. If you were a resident of the America's you may choose to refer to this vehicle as a "Styleside".
The second version is the Holden 1 tonner, so called because of it's carrying capacity. This version is equipped with a flat tray, mostly constructed from steel or alloy, hence it's nickname of "a flatpack". The other affectionate name used by the public is partially derived from the way 1 tonner is spelt and is also the aboriginal word for "carries a lot of s***". "Wuntuna." This version of the Holden commercial is more useful for those tradesmen who are required to transport larger sheets of material that may otherwise protrude from or not fit snugly into the standard Utility without damage to the material or vehicle.

I require the advice and opinion of the members on this forum in relation to what modifications should be performed on my Holden Utility in order to enhance the visual, performance and handling characteristics of my vehicle.

All of what you say makes sense. What doesn't make sense is for us Aussies to use Yankee names for a car body style which we invented. Styleside pfft !! One is a Utility (ute) & the other is a cab-chassis One-Tonner, it's been that way for 40 years plus, why are generation Y people renaming them.

If we were to go into body style names properly I believe that Holden utes, (along with Valiant utes & pre-AU Falcon utes) have always been true coupe utilities since their inception in 1951 (FX). The term coupe utility is reserved for a pick-up where the body & tray are one, not like Hi-Luxes, F-100s & current Falcons, where the tray is a separate bolt-on unit.

I would use the term styleside for something like an F-100 with a normal ute-style body. As soon as an aluminium tray is fitted in its place it become a table-top or just a truck. A stepside I've heard about & these seem to be seen most commonly on early build Yank pick-ups.

The only true utes which the Yanks built would be Chevy El-Caminos & Ford Rancheros, do these get called stylesides in the states, I think not.
