hey guys, I have a 34ADM Webber carb on my 3.3 but having a little trouble starting her up a second time when hot and every time blows blue smoke when started only when hot, is putting a heat shield on it going to solve this problem or does any one have any other better suggestions thanks

Blue smoke on hot start is often caused by leaking valve stem seals.

If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0

I had a similar hot starting issue in my HQ with a standard strommy but admittedly without the blue smoke side of things.
Mine was really difficult to start again when hot which took away some of the fun of driving it because I never knew if it would play ball when I needed it to.
The simple fix was to wrap the fuel line and make a heat resistive shroud. I figured if the fuel arrived at the carby cooler then that might fix my problem without needing to fit a heat shield. There was an instant improvement and now hot starts not a problem.

Hope this helps
Richard

Gday Dave, yea m8 it runs a whole lot better with the weber now m8, just need to get the hot starting sorted and maybe another new fuel tank with an extra 3" drop.with the donk modified the way it is I somehow need to get more miles out of her, the way it is with that small tank she'll only just make from Christchurch to Kaikoura on that full tank...cheers Ron
