Should I be getting manifold vacuum from (what I believe is) the stock quadrajet, at the fitting for the dissy? The fitting front right just above the mixture screw looking from the front of the car.

I'm setting the timing with vac advance off and it bumps up to about 30deg when refitted. This has to be way wrong doesn't it?

Of course it pings like hell on light throttle and has no mumbo on full throttle.

Any ideas?

Pete

Manual or auto? Auto normally use full vacuum, manual use ported vacuum.

Why are the manual and auto different? I'm guessing higher advance at idle to make it a more responsive on the throttle?? and mabe smoother idle??

Is there ported vacuum on the early quadrajets?
