Both work the same, if you were doing 140 with the 120 speedo it would be reading off the clock, I had a 140 in my GTS replica years back and top speed with the 253 was reading just over 125 before it started shaking to pieces.

As cloudy said, they both work the same. The odometer gearing is exactly the same, however the calibration for the needle position will be different. Halfway on the 120 speedo is 60 mph. while halfway on the 140 unit is 70 mph, the calibration must differ. It's not just the face.

If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0 |

So you cant just buy one of those stick-on 140 mph faces and then re-calibrate the needle? I'll have to rip one appart one day and have a look.

Yes i think they are the same internaly. There is a pin in there on the spring with you adjust to the desired speed. I simperly got a speedo that i knew was correct in speed and put o nail in my cordless drill and speed up the speedo and read the speed eg 40 mph and then put it in the speedo i wanted to callabrate and reved the drill to same speed and ajusted the speedo by pushing or pulling the setting pin
