You will find with a little more research that the GTS 327 became known as the Bathurst Monaro AFTER the bathurst win. A bit like a 48215 the1st Holden known as the FX as far any official documentation is concerned there is no such thing as an FX Holden but everybody knows what an FX Holden is....the same goes for the GTS 327....Jack

Hi
As I understand it GM-H did refer to it as the Bathurst "Version" or Bathurst "Model". Maybe Terry, Warren or Ben could comment on this?

To the best of my knowledge Holden never referred to the car as Bathurst.

The term, from what I understand, came about to distinguish a GTS from a GTS 327. The reasoning being that many people inserted 327s and 350s into their GTS, so when advertising for sale a HK GTS with 327 fitted would read the same as a GTS 327.

As these homologation specials were designed for production racing success, and Bathurst being the race that everyone remembers, Bathurst naturally became the term used.

The term will continue to be used for many years, especially by those that are not that familiar with Holden's correct designation. Especially with Ford and Chrysler fans. Magazines like AMC, which covers such a wide range of fans, will start to set the record straight.

Its cause Mt Panorama is in Bathurst, not Orange. Otherwise they would be the Orange HK 327. Shame it wasnt in Dunedoo, cause then they would have had a decent name, the Dunedoo HK 327.

I'm with Warren on this one. I don't recall having heard the term 'Bathurst Monaro' until the late 1970s.

An interesting addition to this discussion would be, the late HK GTS 327 with the type 2 (less powerful) engine, do you still call these 'Bathurst Monaros' even though they were not actually raced at Bathurst.

The same question could be posed for the HG GTS 350, did these ever race at Bathurst & therefore should you call those 'Bathurst Monaros'.

I seem to remember a GTR (non-XU1) racing at Bathurst in 1971 or 72. Could you then call those models Bathurst Toranas

The XY GT (non-HO) raced by Barry Sharp in 1971 ?? Is that a Bathurst Falcon. I could go on, but.......

Dr Terry.
If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0
