Hi All,
Just after some advise. HQ - 350 - Muncie 4 Speed. When the car is in Neutral-ideling, there is a knocking noise (only heard from inside the car), happening at a constant revolution. When the clutch is engaged - the noise stops. Also in gear the noise stops. Any ideas? Any advises would be great.

Isnt the thrust bearing only spinning when its not engaged? Or do i have it back to front? Cos my VY has a spinning sound only audible when the clutch isnt engaged in neutral. Its probably on the go for sure but its a big job to fix so it will have to keep running for now. at least til i get my kingswood online again.

Thanks guy's the noise would best be described as a scrapping sound, as if the flywheel and clutch/pressure plate are slightly touching, when the clutch is depressed it goes away. Rev's are no different. Could it be simply a minor clutch adjustment?

Sounds like you thrust bearing rubbing up against the fingers of the pressure plate, just back it off a bit. I had that problem with mine, same scraping noise. |
Cheers, Pete. Old Holdens never die, they just go faster. |

How did you go? Did you try removing the inspection cover from the bellhousing first and seeing if the noise went? The cover plate might have a dent in it and touches the back of the flywheel prior to the flywheel deforming slightly when the pressure plate stresses it under load. If the noise was present in neutral then you would imagine it is there in gear but you have tried that. But did you actually drive the car with the clutch released and listen? Is the car a factory fit with the infamous clutch system?

Unfortunately have not got to look at the gearbox yet, replaced the brake booster instead, will need to look this weekend. Will also try the other tests thanks
