I need advice on what would be the best option for a tail shaft for my HQ tonner T400-Salisbury.

I have a T400 tailshaft out of a sedan which is too short and i also have the old trimatic tailshaft that came out of the ute.

I know you can change the slip yolk from T400 to the tri-matic shaft but have heard this don't leave much play and with a good knock the tailshaft can bottom out on the back of the box and damage the g/box casing.

If i need to get another tailshaft made using my old T400 tailshaft ends what diameter tubing should i use?

Estimated 350-400hp motor (if this has any influence on tubing size)

Thanks in advance.

Use the original 1-tonner shaft and shorten it. Tonners have bigger unis than normal (1.125", normal is 1"). The tonner diff will have a bigger yoke to suit the uni. The original TH400 yoke also has this same size uni, so once you shorten the shaft the yoke will go straight on.

tonna used 3" diam tube with 3mm wall

ute/van & statey use 2.5" tube & 2.5mm wall)

i have several tonna shafts here & some th400 yolks

you need to get a measurement from diff yolk to g/box ext housing at ground height (with all four wheels on ground)

i should have one to suit.

price is $245 with yolk or $175 without. (plus freight approx $50 - $80)

Sorry i should of included the following...

The diff is not a tonner diff so it only has the small uni.

The tailshaft that was in it was tri-matic to banjo.

So using the original tail shaft a viable option?

will check thru em in morn

im sure i will have shaft to suit without you havn to pay out to shorten one. also have a tonna diff yolk to fit on your existing diff (ie 26mm diam caps both ends)otherwise youl have to fit an adaptor uni which is dearer,(ie 24mm to 26mm) (defeats th purpose of going heavy duty)
