This really sucks.
Jason was going to make a Norman G Booth dealer decal for me. RS don't do it so now I have to go without.
For special orders too small for them to bother with, what's the harm?

Rare Spares and Holden, you have got up the noses of your loyal customers. Did they teach you to do that at business school? In the real world it makes everyone spread the word that you suck.

i think it would be sad if it was. retorers come here for answers on many questions and this is a big question.
..this post has been put here for answers because this is a RARE SPARES FORUM...
i believe this is a very valid post with A valid question THAT NEEDS AN ANSWER and is not abusive to rare spares but just asks the question..WHY IS THIS SO..
therefore it shouldnt be removed.

This is ridiculous. Thing is people dont stand up to them. Patents last for 20 years. You can reproduce ANYTHING you want off a Holden 20 years old or older as long as you dont have the word 'HOLDEN' on it or their logo. Holden doesnt/didnt own the rights to the dealer logos. They belong to the dealers, most of whom don't exist. If I was him I would continue to reproduce all the decals that dont have the lion emblem or 'HOLDEN' on them. They cant do anything.

We will all see this happen more and more as they are trying to squash out all the Aussie battlers that have done their research and made something available to restorers. Because of their well publicised alliance with Holden they think this gives them the right to act on anyone selling products that they think only they can sell. We all know how poor their research is when reproducing 'alternatives', they like to get it off others who have done the hard yards, then come in the back door. Ask Monaro Muscle Parts why he isnt on here anymore.
I know they'll read this and I know it's their forum. Quite clever really. Create a forum that attracts the gurus in the land just so they can sift through the information to assist them in making products for their profit. There are heaps of Holden and car related forums around now.

Lets see what their reply is to this thread.

You probably cant see me but I've got my middle finger right up in the air at them.

Greg, in all honesty - I think your banging your head against a brick wall.
As much as I sympathise to your cause, and feel sorry for Jason's loss of business, I just don't think you will get the answer you want to hear from Rares.
They have done a deal with GMH, and as they are a bigger interest in terms of their market backing than little Joe with his one or two products made locally, they need the capital backing from an organisation such as GMH.
Australia is just too small a country in terms of population and more so in vehicle restoration, for them to worry about a competition commission breaking a deal done with GMH.
Even with America's woes in the financial market place, the mere fact that car restoration in that country is alive and well. They have a population that supports it.
Rares are feeling the pinch, as are all retailers here. Internet sales have exploded even in car parts and such like. There was a time when they were in Homebush Sydney, when you struggled to find a car parking space anywhere close to their store. Now they are at Prospect, and parking is not a problem, you hardly find anywhere near the clientele they once had entering their store.
They are hurting already, and it will hurt them more as our dollar remains as high as it is, and sales go overseas.

I would personally like ask all the gurus that post on here such as Dr Terry, Byron, Warren, Jim, Greg and the many more supremely knowlegeable posters to CEASE posting on here....

YOUR presence and INPUT on this forum gives Rare Spares a level of qualification that they have not earned nor do they deserve.... The simple fact that you give your time and knowledge freely on this forum must make the bean counters at rare spares giggle like schoolchildren at the sound of the lunch bell.....

I implore you to find another forum where you can impart your knowledge and wisdom on all things Holden without you giving this lot a leg up they do not deserve....

this is my last post on here.... rares can stick it where the sun dont shine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

all this is why my friends and i all have converted to building and restoring fords, its easier, the parts are more plentiful and there are quite afew business's around that can supply quality stuff without having to use rares.
anyways, thats the way it is, we whinge, whine, but probably will go nothing about it in the end anyways, stick this probably hasnt got the CORRECT advice in regards to what he can do and cant do, just ask bob matic at FMP in syd, or GT Ford performance, they both reproduce under the ford logo, and bob is just hugely into it and thy dont have any drama at all, so not really the end of the world.
me now, i just stick to gelati, XY's and am looking for a new hobby, getting too hard this car stuff

good on you rares, you have manged to antagonise thousands of enthusiasts for very little gain. you are not interested in making many of the smaller items that these little guys do in their back sheds yet you want to stop them.
and for the record, you cannot stop people making a stripe, only a stripe of a particular colour or dimension. people have been putting stripes on cars since the first car rolled off the assembly line. are you planning to stop ford or subaru from putting stripes on their cars?
Cadbury trademarked the colour purple of their chocolate, but someone brought out another shade and cadbury could not stop them.
anyhow it is clear the small guy can't spend the time and money to fight it and in the end rares will suffer because if renovators can't get the parts they won't bother fixing the cars, then where will you be?

and for those other members of fastlane, as far as I know this is not a rare spares forum, rares make a substantial contribution to running it but it is or was actually owned by someone else.
and I do not believe cav will censor this topic

i received a email from james from MMP (monaro muscle parts) today to say he is closed for business too

making reproduction parts is a hard way to make money, some of the stuff i make, after costs there's usually only enough money left to buy some beer!

They say a little knowledge is dangerous , let me give some facts, Firstly we have no problem with Jason and we have worked with him on parts with samples , testing and information, we have even purchased parts from him (engine start tag) and we would purchase other parts if we had the need of them as we do with some of our Torana decals which we buy in.
Secondly we make about 5 or 6 parts in China all our decals are made in Australia ,Jason actually mentioned that we sometimes use the same manufacturer for decals .
Thirdly GMH are not tiring to stop people from making repro parts what they are doing is protecting their logo , name and intellectual property the same as Ford , HSV, HDT and any of other car manufactures. This is nothing new they the motor companies have been doing it for many years, possibly from inception.

I am no expert on decals but I do know that not all the decals were screen printed the same with our decals we will screen print decals when necessary . Screen printing is not the only way to produce quality decals and may not always be the best.
