It looks like the black in the boot. A dark dark grey satin with a drop of blue.

Is it just Holden slops bucket paint, or does it have a specific paint code?

i think the colour is warrigal black

from what i've read, the colour variation comes from the paint slops tipped in at the end of the day

There was no code for the boot black /firewall. At least I know there wasnt for Adelaide built bodies. The shade varied from day to day. I worked in the paint shop at Elizabeth on the VL/VN. Same paint shop, same process, same mixture of colour. Nothing had changed in 87 form when they were building them in the 60's. Not until the new paint shop was built.

Out of curiosity, what is the build date of the HQ you are wanting to paint? And is it a coupe or other body style? And which plant built it? To get the paint right you need to know all this. HQ Holdens are not as simple as they appear and if the car is a GTS then it is very hard indeed as they were quite different to the rest of them. I've got the paint codes for what was supposed to be applied but as we know that sometimes changed. Sydney plant appears to have been the most consistent with these cars up to when the firewall was not painted black.

Hi
My firewall on a Adelaide bulit 74 HQ Monaro GTS sedan, was glacier white with only the lower part to the under carriage black.

Didnt like it so have painted it all black in GM satin black.
Looks the part and matches other that have seen which are not restored.

It may be a bit late now but from my experience the firewall and boot area on a SS were the blue gray colour the same as other std HQ's as shown here in Scott's blog.

This is actually a Sydney SS but it does appear to be the same for the other plants from what I have seen.
I would also recommend talking to Andy about it and can be contacted via here

Cheers Paul.
