Greetings, Here's an idea. Maybe the colour of the supports is linked to the type of engine in the car? Like a combination of colours according to what cross shaft is needed to suit which engine. There are two sizes and types of supports to take into account as well. Silver/silver, silver/gold, gold/gold, and gold/silver to suit six cylinder and V8, manual and automatic. HG Broughams have gold/gold and a 308 V8 and Trimatic. Anyone know what other engine/trans have?

Parts Recovery may be onto something with his findings and what engines do your nos parts suit tanart?


I had a HG Kingswood wreck delivered today. It is factory Rally Red in original paint. I removed the wiper cowls and the black paint mask line was well under and almost up to the screw holes. I removed the firewall linkages and brackets and, as with every other I have seen, they were all gold except the small drivers side one which was silver.

I am taking delivery of an HT Brougham wreck next week. Once again, unmolested original condition but sadly too far gone. It has all the running gear which is original and untouched and it has a silver firewall bracket on the drivers side.

Upon futher investigation I have noticed that the mask line does not always go right under the wiper cowls to the screw holes but it does go on or over the edge under the bonnet lacing. I still believe it to be incorrect if there is any body colour revealed here as in the photos above. I think it is correct or easy reference to tell people to use the 10 screw holes as a guide for masking when painting the firewall and top cowl panel.

Greetings, That's very interesting as my original Cameo HG Brougham goes against your theories. The cross shaft support is gold and you can see the paint colour under the bonnet lacing rubber just like in this Monaro engine bay. I also have the paint instruction drawings for these cars and they show the paint cut line as the leading edge of the bonnet lacing as you expect. I also know of other original cars and they are all like this. We all know there were variations in production but in the main they were by the book.


Hmm, that is interesting. I have owned, driven, dismantled dozens of HK HT HG. I have a full time business exclusively dealing with them. I reference and study them daily. I also work part time at a leading muscle car retoration place and I reference & dismantle many HK HT HG variations. I have never removed a drivers side firewall rod bracket that is gold. They have all been silver. I also have never seen the body colour revealed between the black and the bonnet lacing. Possibly a state to state thing? Most vehicles I have ever had access to have been predominantly Adelaide/Melbourne built. I shall investigate further.


Just had a look at the bracket for the throttle link on the two here, and the HT has a silver drivers side and gold carby side (brougham), and as per the post above my HG brougham has gold both sides. I'll have a look at the other HT I have and post the findings.
