Hi all, looking at buying a HK GTS 6 cylinder and would like to know a ball park figure as to what it would cost to do a V8 conversion on it. A 327 Chev, powerglide with a B&M shifter and 9 inch is what i have in mind. Is there a place in Sydney that do these conversions? Any suggestions is much appreciated.

quick answer without getting into it with spec's on engine etc, is heaps first get a usable engine, build it, allow conservatively $10k in todays world, then a glide and convertor, allow $2.5k for both in something decent, 9", well depending in ratio and centre you use allow $3.5k for say a nice shortened housing, new axles and 3.25 LSD centre. then a driveshaft with some 1310 or 1330 unis, allow $800(of the top of my head)and then you have to wire it, get a radiator, x member mounts, pipes if you dont have manifolds, it goes on and on when doing a conversion as such, cost you well over $20k and thats if you do it yourself. used to be plenty dudes in syd doing it, just a few that come to mind are brads speed shop, kustom image, bensons, chris hillman, PJ's in reveseby, all gone now i think, changing times we live in.. tip, keep the monaro as a 6, sell it and get a V8 one

Thanks we wreck, ive asked a mate of mine i work with who drags cars and he says allow 15K but as we know, things go over budget and your estimes are what i will go off and seeing how the market is,i can get a V8 for near the same price with its original running gear.
Thanks again.

At last, a realistic price for such a conversion, & I agree, the budget can blow out. |

How about a ex USA crate motor? I take it a stock look isn't important since you're going for the 9" and B & M.
So a 350 crate motor might tick one box. And do you really need a 9" and 'glide?
TH350 or even a tricked trimatic with a 10 bolt?
Just my thoughts. And could you do some of the work yourself? Not everyone wants to rebuild engines or trannys , but there's plenty you could do yourself. Beats paying whatever an hour for someone else.

if you don't know what it costs or how to do it yourself buy one with all that stuff already in there...otherwise you will be taken to the cleaners. i mean that in a nice way. |
Old holdens brought on the spot, quick decision, cash paid. |
