hi all
after months of trawling i now have a beautiful HX Prem in the shed.
However, it has holes cut in the parcel shelf for speakers which i am told make the car unroadworthy as it is a mod on a structural part. (structural my arse, i could cut this car in half it would still be strongr than 1/2 the plastic on the road today).
Anyway, has anyone else had this issue and worked out an easy way to beat it?
I was thinking of mounting my speakers in boxes and securing them down over the holes, covers them up enough so cant be seen.
Thanks
tim

every car is copping it very very hard in melbourne atm, not sure whats going on but i'm even shy to take any old car out for even a drive in fear of a defect, and then the dram in getting it off due to the new laws and crap that have been introduced
parcel shelf is a very touchy subject, i argued the point just last week in regards to a 1957 chev(recent import)with speakers cut into the shelf with a vicroads engineer/inspector, and it was painfull, he just said they didnt want these dinosaurs on the road...
we in for a bit of a hard time for a while me thinks.
ohh and dented sills will be recommended to be knocked back by teters soon as well i am lead to believe

They're picking on parcel shelf holes (in the steel) as it can potentailly weaken the mounting points for the child anchorage restraints when not done properly. However, the ADR for them came into force in the 70s, so it shouldn't affect the '57.
Commodores have factory mounting holes pressed into the shelves from the factory - they are OK. You can blame the kids with angle grinders who cut 12" holes there for bringing it to the attention of the authorities.
Cheers,

Mick

Would you need an engineers report to have the speaker mounts out of a late model welded into a butchered shelf?
