Hi guys,
I am planning to do a sandman replica for a HQ. I have the retractable seatbelts at the moment. I want the original seatbelts that you had to adjust to fit. Were these released in the GTS also? Does anyone have any?

I dont know about the commercials, but a 74 Sandman (year of release) may have had retractable seat belts factory fitted, my 10/73 GTS has them... |

Retractable it is then.
I thought the ute was too old for the retractables.
I definetely don't have the original though.
I already got the cluster and steering wheel.
Next is the mirrors, grill and guards.

Thought the retractable belts came in in Jan 1 1975, after the HJ's release? I've seen an early HJ that still had fixed belts. To the best of my knowlege, any retracatables before that date would have been an option/aftermarket fit. |

My Que was released in 72 and was the base model till I started doing it up.
I will have to look into this one a bit more.
Thanks for the info.

Yes retractables did not come in till HJ. I own a 74 HQ prem that my dad bought new it has fixed belts. I am 99% sure some HQ statesmans had retractables but defienatly not in a sandman or monaro.

Correct yarrum308, retractable seatbelts were available on 73/74 HQ statesmans and were the Kangol Magnet brand. These had a pendulum inside them and relied on a sudden change of vehicle velocity before they locked up - so you can't test them on a vehicle that is stationary.
You don't see too be many HQ statesmans still wearing these belts - I'd say over the years with roadworthy checks, examiners would have failed them for not locking up when pulled down, due to their and the owner's lack of knowledge of how these belts are designed to work.
They were mounted quite low, so I'm not sure if you'd have the correct mounting points for them or not - worth a look though.

I have a 73 Monaro and it has retractables. As far as I know, they were in it from the factory.
