Hi all, does anyone know of unusual paint codes on hq monaros. I own a 74 4 door GTS all numbers check out but the paint code is weird. It is 526-34141, all other codes start with 1 not 3 and i cant find anything to match it. What is weirder is you can tell originally it was Barbados and black as there is clear original paint in hidden areas including original black outs. A mate at the time bought this car back in 1988-89 painted all white and from my memory from someone that worked at GMH in Brisy, whether that has anything to do with it i have no idea. Any guidence is much appreciated as i really want to keep this original colour and i hope it is barbados.

Whats the combination number (the first 3 or 4 letters on the trim line)? 34141 is Classic White, an 80's colour. Better yet do you have a pic of the plate. 526 is the Dulux paint line used by panel beaters not GMH it should be 568. Is the paint code in the same font as the rest of the plate Leroy Edited by user Sunday, 30 October 2011 11:31:19 PM(UTC)

Thanks for your help, tag reads, MODEL HQ 80469 XV4 BODY NO 313278B TRIM -39X PAINT 526 - 34141 APRIL 74
I am new to forums not sure about photos, I reckon the guy that owned it that worked at GMH factory must have made new plates to match paint when he painted it white back in the 80,s, sounds strange but makes sense with what you say.

All fonts are the same, it does not look like tag was butchered but not the original rivets so tags have been removed before my mate bought it around 1988 which is odd as they are painted white so its not like they were removed for painting reasons, plus I am confident that its not a reshell as as original black outs showing on sills and upper door frames and chassis number matches tags too.

Now were getting somewhere :)
Does it have BUILT on the plate under the PAINT? This was style of plate changed during 1982 so its not the original body plate. Unless you have the original books you will probably never know the original colour.
The body no. is consistent with a late April 74 Bris built HQ
It's your car paint it whatever colour you like. |

Yes, I think it is a newer tag.
1. The first part of the TRIM number is missing, as there may not be one for that later colour.
2. The body plate with the built date wasn't introduced until January 1982.

It must have been a regular practice in Brisbane to have a new tag made, have seen a 48 with a "built" tag.

Thanks guys, very helpful, I am not worried about it and i will paint it barbados anyway, maybe i will look to see if someone can produce a new plate with the correct number on it just to finish car off properly. But i dont like my chances for them to change paint code, but i will give it a crack. Thanks again.
