Davo, either way, no matter whether you approve it or not, sounds like HTGTS1969 is happy with it, and that's what really matters.

is anyone willing to purchase th new HZ thin spoked GTS repo steering wheel for their ORIGINAL HQ GTS?? . i talked to several HQ restorers over th weekend at Sydney Super Swap & i believe it has just doubled th asking price of any CORRECT thick spoked genuine HQ steering wheels overnight... as they will not conform to HQ specs for originality!! BYRON? GREG? TERRY? ETC???. what are your thoughts???? maybe rarespares should be catering for th other half of the demand also???

without measuring it, can you even tell???
and yes, i'd put 1 on my HQ GTS, this seems a little petty to me, or am i missing something?

From the names of the posters it looks like it's "Dave's" day so I'll weigh in also.
To re-iterate : the HK and HT-HG wheels were ADR tested with the original thickness spokes and passed without any problems.
As for the 5mm HQ GTs wheel, we were advised by the testing laboratory that they would not pass current ADR requirements so we did not make them, instead opting for the later 3mm wheels which did pass testing.
As I have said in an earlier post on the subject, "In these days of litigation and self opinionated people which way would you have gone?" The question still stands.
Perhaps some-one else out there would care to add the 5mm wheel to their list of items they intend making and then this whole issue will be resolved, afer all from what Davo has to say there seems to be a market for an enterprising young lad to invest in and tackle.

it is actually quite noticeable even to the untrained eye.
personally i dont believe your theory 100% (but of course im just a small time contender.
rares did in fact develop this forum for feedback in an attempt to rectify bad products theyve previously sold to the consumer
im just pointing out facts that i hear from restorers that require a product that is th same as what their pride & joy was manufactured with.
my point was just: the new wheel available is a copy of later model & not acceptable for HQ people with money to pay for a good reproduction. when they were still available NOS (thinner one) for 27.95 back in th 80s, HQ restorers frowned & sourced the
correct 5mm spoke wheel to make them happy
maybe you should convince them to fit WB panels (ie thinner guage & not quite rite)

Maybe rares can convince their prospective customers that their new badges are made of soft white metal to avoid them "snapping in half " in an accident & poking a passer by's eye out. ADR???

If I had an original 5mm thick HQ GTS wheel in my possession I would cut it into 10 pieces and throw it in the bin. I like my Camaro wheel. |

Jeez Davo, relax a bit will you.
It seems you think my comments were aimed at you, not so, it was just a general statement that perhaps there was an opening there for some-one with the courage of their convictions to put their money where their mouth is.
We will always welcome fair and reasonable comment if well intentioned.

Oh, and by the way I have one of each of your 5 Litre badge and our retooled 5 Litre badge on my desk at the moment, and have had for quite some time actually, doesn't seem to be much difference between them to me.
They both seem to be about the same strength if not the same material.
Interestingly though, when compared to the NOS one I also have the pins on yours are straight sided rather than tapered, as the NOS one is, and have rather large dags on the ends which I would think need some rework before they would fit the original holes and clips.
Just thought you might like to be bought up to speed on that.

well ther ya go!! you obviously have never tried trial fitting any then have you??? my new badge (although blunt pins) pushes straight into original clips in place, lines up correctly in original holes & sits flush!!! yours on th other hand DOES NOT line up in original holes nor does it sit flush with contour of guard, unless you slot th holes or snap off outside pins lastly although mine is softer type metal than original it is a lot more ridgid than yours THAT is th reason i had them remade, because you assured me personally, that your pin location was rectified. & they still arent i research products that i supply, & trial fit them personally b4 selling them to anyone!!! regards dd www.bellarineclassicautos.com.au
