Just wondering if anyone knows what the process is to register a trailer that was last registered interstate? I have looked all over the RTA website and can find no reference to trailers.

Is it an easy process or are they going to have to do an inspection on the thing?

Thanks

I would buy the smallest ,cheapest registrable trailer use the plates and keep that trailer for garden mulch...but I don't know about inspection.just the red tape that seems to follow us around.

I sure hope it is not like a car. I really don't want to have to mess around with permits and crap to get it inspected.

I did find this form.
http://www.sa.gov.au/upl...ng/Registration/MR1.pdf

But I will give the RTA a call in the morn and see what they have to say.

Better do a VIN or chassis number check.
When I worked for a dealership & we fitted trays to new cab/chassis
utes they had to go over a weighstation & be measured for licencing
One day this old boy rocked up with his trailer he'd just bought,
when they ran the VIN/chassis # it came up as being on 2 other trailers in OZ somewhere!!
I had to be on my way so dont know if they impounded his trailer
or if he needed a permit to drive it to the pits but I would say
you would as if your pulled up not having plates on then its a unregistered vehicle/trailer.
I think the only checks required for trailers would involve ID check, lights, measured for length/width & maybe weight.
