Hey all we recently pitted a FalconXR6 fitted with the new Eco LPi engine against the Commodore SV6 and Toyota Corolla in a fuel efficiency test which included the most laps around Calder Park on $2 of fuel. Check out this video to see how the FalconXR6 measured up again the competition

Don't need to convince me, I've had my G6 LPi since september, and it's a great car. 600km a week on $44, and no loss of power compared to petrol - if anything, it's got a bit more midrange.

Hey guys this looks great and we are looking at a new car for our second child, so I just want to know, where is the gas tank located? and does the rear seat split and fold forward?

The tanks (2 mounted together) are under the rear of the car, and the boot floor is totally flat.
The rear seats do 60/40 split-fold.

They come standard with no spare. Instead, you get a "Temporary Mobility Kit" mini-compressor fitted with a bottle of goop, that sits inside the RH corner of the boot.
I asked for a space-saver spare with mine - it's supposed to be no charge, but the dealer forgot to order it, and apparently it's no-charge only if you order it from the factory that way. To fit the spare, they have to remove the "goop kit" as the location for the wheel mounting stud relies on the tyre sitting snugly into the RH side of the boot. In the end, the dealer gave me a space saver that they'd removed from a car where the buyer bought 5 alloys, and I just throw that in if I'm travelling away from the city. They didn't give me a jack or wheel brace though...... but I still have the goop kit....

Being as I have my BA Ghia in the Ford dealers getting the blend door shafts replaced (which was to be an $1100 job) and they rang me today and said that the HIM is also faulty so I'm up for $1738 for a repair that would not have to be done if Ford had designed the car properly in the first place but alas it's a fairly common problem. I probably won't be considering another Ford again new or used.

Unless of course Fords customer service people reimburse me a VERY sizable chunk of that $1738

I'm saying this is the crap you will have to live with if you buy a Ford & probably why their resale values are down the toilet.

From what I can gather FG's have the same crappy HVAC system.

24 hours on and I have not yet hear back from their customer service department.

They did make some changes between BA & FG - one of those was putting the temp sensor in the LH mirror, and they also changed the compressor & refrigerant charge.

The BA XR6 I had a while back had very good aircon - it got cold quickly, and kept the car cool without having to run at hurricane fan speeds.

By comparison, the early FGs at work had woeful aircon in summer - all the guys who had them complained about it. Didn't bother me at the time as I had my VE. But I copped it first hand 3 years ago when I swapped with one of them for a few days (I fitted a towbar on my VE, and he needed to use it). Where the VE would take about 10 minutes to get the car cooled down, the FG struggled all the way home (40 minutes on the freeway).

When I first found out they'd changed the fleet policy at work to eliminate all petrol vehicles (unless there was no diesel or hybrid variant in the class - LPG without petrol was also made available) I realised I was going to end up in an FG, as I wasn't willing to have one of the rattly alternatives.... Concerned about the aircon issues we'd experienced (IMO a design constraint, not a fault) I spoke to some of the guys I deal with at Ford R&D (for work reasons) and they told me that corrective action had been taken, rattled off a list of changes, and assured me the new ones were much better - that was about 18 months ago.

My FG (Aug '11 build) aircon is so much better than the early ones we had - it gets cool much quicker, and holds temp well. It's still not quite as good as the VE in total cooling power - you have to crank the fan speed up a bit higher to stay comfortable, but it does the job, and I'd say it's 90% there now.

In saying that though, I recently redid the A/C in my VL Brock - all new components, and converted to R134a, and it's a lot better than the FG!

I have no complaint about how the HVAC works in the BA I'm just saying that from what I believe the FG has the same stupid plastic shafts & heater interface module that break about every 5 years and take a whole day to change therefore $$$.

Not many FG's would be old enough to start breaking yet but give it another year or two. It probably does not affect fleet buyers but it will affect private buyers who might keep their new car for 5-15 years or the sucker that buys a 5 year old used example only to find that they have to spend another couple of grand to get the heater fixed.

Got my car back yesterday. the dash looks like it was re assembled by a monkey with a hammer so they are getting it back on Monday to do the lower dash again properly. I think that the mechanic had the s***s when he re assembled it the second time because HE left a wire unplugged behind the dash so he treated the car as if it was its fault that he had stuffed up.

Funny thing is I decided to pay the extra money to get a Ford dealer to do it so that it would be done right.

The cigarette lighter was loose when I bought the car so I pulled apart the surrounding area and placed a screw in there to make it nice and tight. There was a hole that looked like it should have had a screw in it.

The cigarette lighter socket is loose again so I can just picture said monkey with a hammer discovering that he had a screw left over and dutifully binning it.
