VK Calais was standard with the digital dash.
Standard base engine was the EFI 6, backed by the trimatic (no manual option for the 6).
Optional engine was the 5.0L, in both auto, and the fairly rare manual (M21) form. |

Mick, I had an 85 model with a 4.9 and M21. Someone wanted it more than I did though, and stole it out of my driveway late one night. I reckon over 400 metres that thing would have left my 383 Camaro in it's tracks. Unbelievable performance.

Ta. been offered a VK allegedly a calais, but carby motor, manual mirrors, analogue dash. I was a bit sceptical but just wanted to be sure it was just a tarted executive.

They were still badged a 5.0L on the boot, even though the aircleaner sticker was 4.9 - to differentiate the 304 from the earlier 308. The 5.0L/M21 combo in VK was almost always the 'full house' V5H package - basically the same engine as the SS (177kw version) - featuring the big valve heads, Brock inlet manifold etc etc. It didn't last long though - they went back to the small valve heads on all the manuals in August '85 (VG prefix 304). |
