I am in the process of buying a car in SA that hasn't been registered for 30 years from an Auctioneer, no rego papers come with the car and as I understand the sale has been arrange by the owners family. I am not initially looking to register the car but not sure on what is the minimum documentation required when I do as I may end up registering in SA or WA.
The auctioneer tells me a receipt of sale from him will do but I am not sure if I also need a receipt from the owner or if thats not possible a receipt from the owners power of attorney.

Any advice?

Thanks

Tony

As far as I know all you need to do take the car to regency park for inspection (not the rego dept but a few streets back)no appointment needed. They will then just check the cars engine no the body no and take the speedo reading just to make sure car isnt stolen etc. The car isnt put on a hoist or over a pit but if you take it there on a trailer they will not inspect while its on a trailer. I took a vic car there with no paperwork and also a old holden ute with a average body and both got passed. I think a problem will arise if the car is modified both mine were original. hope this helps

It may not need regency, I bought a HR years ago that had been on a property ,all I had was a receipt from the owner and no reg papers, just filled in a form with the relevent numbers and the guy said hows many months do you want, I was lucky however that it still had its original engine because it would not have passed over the pits!
