Does anyone know how much work is involved in installing a heavy duty (original) 4 core radiator to a XB that has a small 6cyl/8cyl 302 radiator>? i.e. not as wide as the 4 core - do I need to cut the panel to fit or can you but new panels to suit etc? Cheers Harry

OK 302 and 351s had the crossflow radiator in 2 and 3 core. 6cyl had the non cross flow with the radiator cap in the middle like the XYs. Don't remember seeing a factory 4 core cross flow. If you have the narrower 6 cyl radiator you can grind the hole a bit bigger for the wider V8 rad. I didn't bother, was on the to do list and has been for 20 years but really hasnt been that big an issue temp wise. You will need the proper radiator mounts to suit your radiator and the hoses and thermostat. Are you running a fan or thermos. If a fan, how many blades?

forgot to mention that all the mounting holes for the bigger radiator will already be on the car. Only bit of a bugger is the lower radiator mount holes. See if you have a thread inside the hole for the bolts. Mine didn't and it took some lateral thinking to get past that problem.

The big tank radiator brackets (off the GT or Farilane) etc are VERY hard to find (original ones anyway)

I believe that you can use the XC stepdown type brackets though

Hi Paul / all, thx for your comments - mine currently has the standard 2 core cross flow radiator but is not as wide as the original 4 CORE I just purchased - (came from a GT). It seems that I will have to cut / grind the sides of the support panel to widen the opening to physically sit it in - a real pain as I have the car fully re-sprayed in 2 PAC pepper red. It has a pair of thermo's on the front side and I will retain the orginal (crappy) 4 bade fan on the inside. Do you know if you can use any other brackets than the ones listed in Rare Spares - only because they want $170 for the 4 little brackets alone! Cheers Harry
