Hi all. First time poster. I'm getting my P's in a few months and I've saved some money so I would like a few ideas on cars that would be suitable for a P plater. I love GTS Monaro's but I doubt I'd be able to find one in my price range ( $5k )
Suggest any cars you can think of,(In my price range.) I'd love to hear some responses. |
No worries, mate. |

That sort of money will get you a very nice VT or even a VX if you look hard enough.

Depends if you want a classic or not.
$5K won't go far on a classic, but you may get lucky & find a nice 6 cylinder torana or kingswood from the 70s.
However, I've gotta agree with Jim - $5K will get you a V6 VT or VX Calais, which will arguably be more reliable, and better on fuel - letting you concentrate on building a classic V8 fow when you get off your Ps. |
Cheers,

Actually I never thought of the oldies but there are things like this around: http://www.allclassified...isplay-ad?cid=123158700
Or this if a factory 4 speed brown wagon is to your taste: http://www.allclassified...isplay-ad?cid=123211494
$5K would get you an AU in impeccable condition if you can stomach their looks or a BA which probably would be a money pit at that price. |

Hi Tom welcome to the forums. Ahhhh yes the good old P plater days. I agree with the vt-vx option your better off buying a newer car at the start and not worrying about break downs. Get s good first car then save up for a classic or as Blocker said a PV lol. Maybe even a ute mate to haul your stuff around like this http://www.ebay.com.au/i...ars&hash=item2a164247d0

Cheers fellas, I love utes but being the only guy with his license in my group I'm going to have to traffic around a bunch of free loaders, and there won't be enough room for that(though that could be a good thing) ;-) I'd get a panelvan, I've seen a restored Hz PV with some sweet hotwire rims that was really inspiring but I'm not a very skilled driver yet and they are a little heavy to steer. Any others that come across this thread, please don't hesitate to leave any suggestions! |

As pimpin' as that would be, I wouldn't be able to handle all the women it would attract ;-) Edited by user Saturday, 10 December 2011 11:01:48 PM(UTC)

ill suggest a hz sedan with asthmatic 202, and save for a lsx conversion for when youre off the p plates.
All your mates will go buy an SS and wonder why your car is faster, cooler, and half the price lol.

If you can park it out of the weather have a crack at this. Leave it as is, and sell it once off your P's. http://www.ebay.com.au/i...ars&hash=item19cc9da66f

Haha, love that suggestion. Any specific reason for a HZ? I love HQ's. |

Thanks for finding that mate but I hadn't been on the computer for a while and it's been taken down now :-( I'd really like a stock HQ Premier with a 202 and a floor shift auto, but I can't find one. They must be getting rare. |

Great cars but I found a great HQ Kingswood a few months ago in immaculate condition for only $500 since the bloke wanted to get rid of it. 202, column manual, 3.55 diff, front discs, bench seats. Bargain!! |
