Heres our NC fairlane that we bought for $1800 a few years ago. No rego or roadworthy.
Heres a few pics of it when we first bought it.
Vehicle was purchased because in good fortune previous owner had spun a couple of main bearings, repair qoute for engine rebuild was over 5k. Therefore previous owner had installed 3 1/2k worth of S.C.A.T 347ci stroker kit, crane cam, timing chain kit, (suprisingly didnt fit au intake and heads) 2,800rpm stall converter, 3:73 diff gears etc. etc. Good starting point. P.S Previous owner didnt own the car for too long. He bought it from some guy in Geelong. Heres a few pictures of the engine bay when we got it:
Decided it went to good and looked a bit ordinary. So lowered it on 3.5" king springs with new bushes, ball joints etc. And put 18" SSA 'RAZR' wheels on it looking better now.
Although this appeared to be a pretty silver early 90's fairlane, this was not the case. Geelong boy had been at the car with some bog and the sunday race guide (bed mattresses included to make sills). This we discovered after noticing a few bubbles that needed fixing in the dog-leg and around the fuel flap. Heres the road that story went down
After a bit of grinding and welding heres what the end result looked like:
This is around the point where i bought a new BA MKII xr8 (manual) for a daily driver.
Was going to sell the Fairlane but the missus decided she wanted a V8 ford as well. This resulted in a full rebuild of the Fairlane.
Started on the sills and bottoms of the doors, used more metal and mig wire than ever, filled it and shaped it all up and then speed filed and blocked for 3 months. As we know the Fairlanes are big and square, and must be straight to look good in the colour i chose to play with. The photos below should tell the story over the next four months.
Sills welded, filled, smoothed and primed. Getting there.
Engine Bay smoothed, deseamed, and painted in holographic flake black.
Door jambs painted in black, boot done and the rest of the hidden parts painted black.
Another Engine Bay shot.
