Holden 5.7L (350) will weigh basically the same as a 304/308 with the same external stuff (heads, manifold etc).

GenIII I got a weight of 183kg fully assembled as it comes out of a car, but no oil, water, alternator, flywheel or wiring

fully assembled gen3 is about 220-225kg

but you want a 355 which shouldnt really weigh much more then the 308 its based on, a full assembled 308 (inc pump and starter etc) is about 320kg

Does that mean it's time to turf the 308 and get a Gen 3, 100kg difference.

What does 100kg mean in HP?

The weight for GenIII I have has no starter or exhaust manifolds.

This was weighed as a crate motor and presented to engineer and accepted.

Sealed dry L98 with waterpump, plugs, leads, waterpump, Air flow meter

I think Chris wants the weight of a 350ci stroked 304/308, not a GenIII. Anyone know what a 308 weighs?

100kg more would need at least another 20hp more. Or 100kg less would free up the use of 20 hp.

Talking .2 to .3 of a second quarter mile time.

hmmm
im still really unsure what motor to use for bang for buck build
can someone help me please with out blowing my pocket full of limited cash??
i want something that will have good low down toque and will rev to 5000-6000rpm
anddd it needs to be lighttt as possible

GenIII for lightness and a second hand VY example won't cost the earth. Just the conversion bits will be expensive.

welll it will be going in a boat so efi isnt really that attractive , can you put a carby on a genIII
i know i know this is a car forum but i wanted some experinced advice on motors

i have seen them in a boat with efi an electronic throttle, you can also go carby and comptuer controlled box for ignition or even carby and dizzy if you like.
