A friend has an XC GXL 302 manual in a nice red colour. Was this a common combination ?

The red colour (from memory I think that it was called "red Flame")was a reasonably common for a GXL but having said that a fairly desirable model and colour if you are after an XC sedan.
As for the 4.9litre manual probably not so common as you could get the GXL in 4.1 litre manual or auto 4.9 litre auto or manual or 5.8 litre auto or manual. |
