Can you explain the characteristics of the vibration?
Is it at a particular speed?
Or is it RPM related?
During acceleration or backing off?
Is your car lowered? (or raised?)
What wheels are you running?

Ok hope I explain it right,
place it in drive and accelerate as normal not standing on the pedal all is smooth until you reach around 80-85 and the vibration starts.
The faster you go the louder it gets and the faster the vibration gets, to explain the vibration it is a repetative sound on and off evenly spaced sound.
When you kick it back a gear around 50-60 you can wind it up to 110 with no vibration/noise, but when you select top gear the vibration kicks in and is very loud and violent, when you back off or take your foot off the accelerator, the noise is still there and stays consistent until you're back down around the 80-85 mark, there are no spacings or gaps in the vibration, it is a constant vibration/noise.
Can accelerate upto 110, place it out of gear into neutral and roll, vibration is still there intermittantly, slow down to approx 85 and it dissapears. There is no Tacho fitted in the guage so can't really speculate as to what RPM it is doing this at exactly.
Rear end of car seems to be raised, front appears standard, although that's only on observation.
Only running standard 14x7 peanut mags with 215/75/14 tyres.
Engine/Trans have done a LOT of km's, guage is saying 500,000, so I'm assuming this is correct, am unsure of wether Trans has ever been serviced/replaced.
I plan to put the running gear into a good body that I have already, however want to get it running smoothly if possible, a rebuild is out of the budget for now, but am trying to get it as good as I can before I change over gear.

Cheers, Steve..

Wheels balanced correctly?
Tyres not delaminating?
If you have the chance to put another set of wheels on as a trial, you can at least eliminate that as a problem.

Are you able to get under & see if your diff pinion shows any movement? Preferably wheels off the ground, trans in nuetral & handbrake off to eliminate crown wheel preload & holding pinion tightly.
Does your trans output shaft show excessive sideways movement. If it does, you'll most likely have an oil leak at the trans output shaft seal too.
Are all the bushes that position the diff housing in place in good nick?
Confirming tailshaft balance is worthwhile, the balancer will most probably want to fit new unis so he knows what he's dealing with.

Thanks for the advice, I will look into all of the things mentioned and let you know how I go, there are a few things here I hadn't considered could be the problem.

Cheers all for the fresh outlook, I will re-post when I've tried all of the above and let you know what the issue was or if I'm still scratching my bum trying to figure it out.

G'day all quick up date so far, rear trailing arms top & bottom all good no change vibration still there, shockers still no change,
will be able to get a set of standard to try this weekend which will either solve or eliminate a possible cause.
There is about 0.5 mm or less play in the back of the trans where the yoke is but that area is not wet with oil no drips hanging from the crossmember all dry, also there is play in the diff but i have had worse and didn't have this noise in other kingswoods.
So that's it for now will keep you all posted wether i fix it or shoot it.

cheers steve

if it's a diveshaft or gearbox problem then you will feel the vibration though the seat, mostly it's the wheels that cause the vibrations, check to see if there is mud or something stuck inside the rims, that can do it

mostly the solution is to just get a wheel balance done, it usually doesn't cost much, and can only make things better

Yeah i do feel it under my bum and a bit with my left foot in the floor pan up agaist the trans hump, no mud in the rims but i'm going to pull the stock rims of my hj that runs smooth, the scary thing is that it's leading to a trans problem which i'm hoping it's not ,Please save me geebus.

Cheers Steve

sounds like transmission or convertor to me.

p.s. banging neutral at decent speeds is baaaaad and may be hazardous to your legs and feet so wear steel pants if you are going to do it often.

I think my car is posessed as now the vibration has moved for mid section to more in the engine/trans area and it kicks in now around 85-90,still havn't had the tail shaft checked as $$$ are tight and as Utility8 mentioned befor that a balancer will change uni's regardless and i have just bought new ones but it is still the first thing the the $$$ will go to first,
I'm going to take her into work and lift it up with the reach stacker (Basicly a huge @#!* big forklift)and high presure clean under nether and remove the 10' of crap that is under it and check around the converter and yeah no more neutral runs.
cheers steve
