Les, looks really good. You want to do the last 1% correct though, and advertise and market them properly.
2 x examples:
The Sandman wheel suits ONLY HQ Sandman. HJ and HX have blank caps.
SS Torana also have a blank cap. The SS cap is for HQ SS only. |

I think I know what you mean.
The badge (Sandman) is for the HQ only.
If so, I have the wrong one on my HQ. I have the blank one.
I will have to buy a the horn pad and badge.

I dropped into the Prospect Sydney store this afternoon and was advised HT GTS wheels are expected in their store next week after they are shipped from Melbourne. |

are rares going to offer a change over service for the GTS wheels, as it seems a shame to bin what could be a good original wheel just because the outer rim is broken, bent, worn or is it too costly.. also, what is the spoke thickness on the HQ/J/X/Z wheel now on offer, is it 5 or 3mm? thanks Edited by user Thursday, 9 February 2012 6:03:32 AM(UTC)

the spoke thickness is as per the later thinner wheels
no we dont plan on doing a reconditioning service for original wheels, im sure there is somebody out there who can already recondition them but its not practical for us at the moment

That's what the shed wall is for. I'm guessing a good reco is probably as expensive if not more than producing a new one.

It'd only be worth doing on early thick spoke wheels, just buy the repros for the later stuff. |

We cannot make the thicker spoke wheel because it could be fitted to later cars and would then not meet the ADR's Les

so a thinner spoked wheel meets ADR's but a thicker one doesnt!!! shouldnt it be other way round? doesnt sound right to me. maybe it was cuppla cents cheaper to mass produce thinner spoke wheel???? i know what id rather... hmm

A few things come to mind here: 1) At the time I'm sure Holden would have prefered to have continued with the thicker wheel considering they had already paid for the tooling rather than paying for a second set to comply with ADR's and having to test for ADR compliance. 2) If you think about it for even an instant, which would you rather impact in an accident, the thicker more ridgid, more likely to cause injury wheel, or the thinner more likely to collapse wheel?
In any case the advice we received was that the thicker wheel was not ADR compliant and we should not make it. The wheels we have made are ADR tested and approved. In this day of litigation and self opinionated people which way would you have gone?

the difference in appearance would be f'all, having my HQ looking 100% original isn't all that important to me, so personally i'd prefer the thinner wheel, i don't want to die just cause i wanted to have my car 100% original looking?
conspiracy theories are easy to start and spread, forums are renowned for it, facts are a lovely thing :-)

Les, that is what I meant. Owners can get the thick spoke wheels restored for earlier cars and buy your repro for the thin spoked later cars. I still find it hard to believe that you could be held liable for making a resto product because someone might use it on the wrong car! If that is the case no-one would be allowed to sell anything but 1-tonner road wheels, light truck tyres, 1-tonner rear wheel bearings etc. I do understand if your product risk assessment says that it isn't worth the risk to the Company by making the thick spoked ones, but there should be no legal reason to stop someone from doing it. Are the all the earlier resto wheels thinner eg XW GT? |

Byron It is a very grey area with safety parts and risk assessment plays a big part. Les
