Rare Spares just released one. It is pretty good. The original is from some US vehicle, but the Rares example is probably the best value. Davo or Simon will have a good idea too.

With the Aussie dollar so high at the moment, why not get a 1st Gen Camaro steering wheel from the U.S
They look exactly the same, from the same era, probably are the same as used on Monaro. With postage they are still cheaper than Rares which shows how much we get ripped here in Australia.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think these may be a different diameter and a different offset depth. Otherwise they look the same.

Yes, your probably right - but I didn't say they were the same. (Probably) been the word in question here as my first post indicated.
Value for your buck though, and if you don't need it as a show pony, they would definately be a good close alternative. Still say we are getting ripped off something cronic here in Australia.

So you'd rather US pricing? Would you like US wages with that as well?

Right out of left field, where did that come from?
Do you not see Australia heading the way of America?
Jobs are already heading off-shore, pushing wages down and everything else is heading up. Take a look with Westpac Bank, Qantas, and a few others of recent times.
In my case, working as an Industrial Control Electrician, I would make just as money based in the US thank you very much :)

Those US wheels are wheel only too. The Rares HK wheel is $475 online for a complete wheel with new hub as well. BUT, for some reason they are listed as dearer ($511) without the hub? Must be a mistake. See if you can buy through a mate who gets trade pricing maybe?

The higher priced wheels are those from the USA that have no boss or other parts with them. The new HK wheel is complete with boss, hub, cap, decal and all screws and springs. It has all the correct attributes including the number of finger grips on the rear.

So lets get this straight.
P/N 2805096 @ $475.00 is listed as HT,G

While the USA Import P/N 3960722 @ $511.50 and is Listed to suit HK

Correct?????????

So the link I provided is the same wheel as the one listed by Rares ???? Except it's a hell of a lot cheaper including postage.
The one listed from Rares that is the American wheel is also been passed off as a HK Monaro wheel. Tell me what is wrong with that then.
Does false advertising start to ring any bells here, and was I wrong to show the link to the Ebay steering wheel????
Somehow I don't think so.

The link to the USA wheel clearly states that it is a "second" ,or as his article reads "these steering wheels have some slight flaws in the stainless and/or in the plastic. these wheels are good drivers but would not quite make show quality. i do have other wheels on ebay that cost more but are the cream of the crop" so the price shown is low. The part number 3960722 is for the USA Rosewood wheel that has been suitable for HK, and still is.

Now the new HK 9748390 is a complete wheel with all the components including cap, decal etc as mentioned earlier. It has been made exclusively for Rare Spares and has met the requirements of many enthusiasts and club members who assisted with the development. It has been extensively tested for ADR compliance, and approved. It has undergone very comprehensive electronic measurement checks and passed 100%.It has only been in stock for one week and has strong demand. The HT HG is 2805096 as you have mentioned, and has been selling even more due to the amount of vehicles it suits. It also comes complete with the hub, adaptor, cap, decal, screws and springs.

i know this is a bit off the subject but i'm normally quick to bag rares on their products as i've had some bad fitting components from them and lost a lot of hard earned dollars .but lately they seem to have picked up their socks on their products maybe the suppliers they are dealing with seem to know what they are doing not saying all of their products but some i've purchased seem to be a lot better standard.for example i just purchased a rear muffler and quad pipes which were quite reasonably priced and fit and look as per original well done rare spares.

Tour Director,
When you copy and paste, don't give only half the info.
You missed this part.

these wheels were optional for Corvettes, Chevelle, Camaro, Nova and Impala's. it has a stainless two piece center. it is correct for 67 and 68 Corvettes and many other GM cars and will work on corvettes thru 1976. i have the 63 thru 66 wheels on another auction now. i don't know if this is NOS, Remanufactured or an excellent aftermarket but it is NEW but keep in mind some slight flaws. they will both be shipped in the same box. i also have a box of 5 packaged up and ready to ship, call 863 697 9586. This item sells at your local Corvette store for up to $349.95

So normally these would sell for $349.95 USD He also states that he's unsure if they are NOS, Re-manufactured, or a good aftermarket copy. Much like Rare Spares with many of their parts I would imagine.
The steering wheel is New and unused and comes in a box, what that box is though is not really stated.
I still say it is an excellent buy at the price it's at, and even with postage it still comes in under anything Rares has on offer. The sore point here - Is Rares can't compete with these online sales and Auction sites and it's doing it's very best impression of a Gerry Harvey. Punters will always look for a bargain. The loyal ones to your business at Rares might be there now, but the future will tell just how long that might be. Business is Business in this big world, and money is tight for way too many.

I think i'm missing something, maybe? $349.95US plus postage for a bare wheel versus $475AUS for a complete really good repro wheel (boss etc). I would have thought the Aussie one was a better buy? I get the value in the cheaper US wheel though for an everday drive car.

Yes you are missing something. It's on ebay for $151.19 Aus + Postage of $66.75 Aus - It would normally sell for upto $349.95 US + Postage

So for $218.00 Aus you could have the same wheel that Rares has which retails for $511.50 Aus for a (bare wheel) and it's been passed off as a HK Monaro wheel (Which it isn't)
but the US Wheel has one or two marks/flaws on it.

I thought you meant the $349US wheel without flaws versus the $475AUS complete repro. I get it now.

Note that it is not unusual for stuff to be way cheaper in the US. Look at the cost of complete 350 SBC rebuild kits from firms like Summit. With postage and customs they are still hundreds of $ cheaper than anyone over here.

So it appears that you can buy a USA "seconds" wheel only for about A$218.00 and it may be suitable for your use. Then you have to add in the cost of the hub etc or rely on your own parts fitting. If you purchased one of their "quality" wheels it would cost you about A$417. You then try and match it against a wheel supplied by a recognised GM Restoration parts company in the USA who has to pay a licence fee to GM, (and it still has no hub)for A$511.50. Then you compare it against a completely new wheel, with everything you need, to suit the Australian car for A$475.Until now the only option was the GM USA wheel. The new Rare Spares wheel and all components are made from the original GMH specifications. The sales of the USA wheels will now show a big sales decline as customers buy the new Rare Spares wheel for their car. It is difficult to match a flawed/marked product to an approved restoration product and see they are the same.

This part I agree on.

But now go back and look at what the OP was asking.
I don't see him asking for anything other than a close match to just a bare wheel for his HK Monaro.

Rares have one of those for $511.50
I found him one landed here for $218.00 off ebay. It might suit him, and it might not.
That I don't know - he's kept quiet while all this is going on.
His post would have indicated to me at least - he was after a wheel that was close to original to suit a daily driver, and not some show piece. Notice he also used the word "Aftermarket"

I now rest my case - Have a nice day guys :)
