Buddy, the only thing that ID plate can be used for legally is a drink coaster. It's illegal to to rebody, dont think they even let you sell them on ebay anymore

It seems a bit of a pity that something can't be done to ressurect an old XAGT if you have the right ingrediants.
I know the clubs and experts look down on this sort of thing but as long as it was recorded as a rebody and anybody who was to puchase the car in the future could verify it's history then well whats the harm.
After-all so many old cars these days have been through multiple resto's, sometimes there ain't alot of originality left.
The cars I find are most interesting are the real survivers that are untouched, there're like a time capsule even though they maybe abit shabby.
Values seem to reflect this!
I'm probably contradicting myself but to me if you were to build a XAGT out of these parts then I suppose it's just one level above a clone and many people don't seem to have a problem with a well done clone!
Like I said as long as the car is not sold as something it's not and the clubs seem to have a pretty good handle on this these days well then why not.
Is'nt it all in the spirit of keeping these old cars going???

People going to gaol up here in Sydney for doing "rebodies". It's called rebirthing. I do understand what you mean here Ted, but if it was accepted, before long some character would make it shady. Edited by user Friday, 17 February 2012 12:35:36 AM(UTC)

It's a can of worms. To rebirth the GT would mean using a donor car with its own uniquie ID. Now in many cases the donor car ends up being some poor buggers pride and joy that gets stolen off him. Possibly even another GT which then ends up very much dead. By putting the ID plates up for sale though seemingly innocent, it actually gives some gutter sucking low life an excuse to go off and steal a donor. Also if the GT is recorded somewhere as being written off and then shows up all brand new there are going to be some serious questions and possible chargers made.

Yep its bad the way scumbags spoil it for the rest. ZL296 has the plate and the block because he legitimately bought a genuine GT albeit a stuffed one probably so he has the right to sell it's identity because he owns that identity.
Trouble is when you sell an identity you have no way of knowing whether you are selling it to someone who intends to rebody a car that they honestly own or whether they intend to steal the car that is about to gain a GT identity.
But where does it end? if you have a car that has been involved in a heavy rear ender how do you know that the donor rear end to fix it did not come from a stolen car? |
